Loehmann's replacement

Lol! I actually had some pretty fun -- and funny -- experiences in the Loehman's dressing room. I once went to one of the original stores in the Bronx. I found some great things to try on. I also found some wonderful supportive and realistic critics. By the end of it, thanks to their suggestions, I left with some great stuff.

I really like Nordstrom Rack, although, like many stores, it's not as awesome as it used to be. Century 21 was truly awesome. While I shop at Marshall's and TJ Maxx sometimes, I rarely have the effervescent excitement of finding something truly wonderful.

tldr: Closest for me is Nordstrom Rack, especially for shoes.

i miss loehmanns. can no longer tolerate the nasty women that work at nordstrom rack in chevy chase and downtown on L street. i have spent a fortune there over the years and will not go back after being screamed at for not standing precisely on the circle the other week when no one was ahead of me or behind me in line and I was wearing a foot boot and could barely walk and at least 15 feet from anyone. they hire a certain type, very unpleasant, have more stories

The Rockville TJ Maxx seems organized. The nicest TJ Maxx stores are new are large and uncrowded.

I wore a $199 Oscar de la Renta dress to a high school dance, thanks to the Back Room at Loehmann's years ago.

When it was good, it was really good.

Last Call is probably the best of the dept store outlets these days.

Old thread, but just have to say Century 21 is back in Manhattan.

Also, for the ex Bostonians, Frugal Fannies still exists, but only has one location.

There used to be a Frugal Fannies around here (DMV) a long time ago, but I can't remember where.

I’ve seen a few Annie Sez signed around, I got my prom dress there.

These days the discount stores are online: Gilt and Rue La La for new designer stuff, The Real Real and ThreadUp for used.

I just searched Tiktok and there are loads of videos of people shopping at Frugal Fannies. Apparently, they get a lot from Anthropologie and Madewell.

I can’t believe we don’t even have the friendship heights TJ anymore!

Since this thread has been revived, Fox's in NYC is still kicking. This is the last surviving of the great discount stores because they resisted the temptation to scale. I think that's what killed the rest - once you get bigger, it's hard to source inventory of the same caliber for all those locations, so they got flooded with crap at the end.

TRR used to be nice... now it's picked clean and prices have gotten insane. They stopped consigning good brands too, like Donna Karan.
