I'm tired of sending money to Richmond and then still having to come out of pockets for something as simple as roads.

I can’t wait to move out of Virginia. Northum and McAwful have been terrible for our economy. All they know how to make money is to tax and the toll roads are a form of taxation.

Figure it out, people...where is most of the population density (hint, not other counties outside of NoVA) and who makes up the bulk of the poor in NoVA in the schools and health areas?

what point are you making here?

Step outside of NoVA if you dont think there are extensive services needed in southern VA.

I think PP is saying that our liberal policies toward immigrants are causing our schools to explode and hence the need for more education funds.

NP +1

Who do you think pays for all these extra teachers for the illegal aliens and the children of illegal aliens? My school is 70% - 80% reduced/free lunch and 95% nonwhite. (The website says much higher number, but the classrooms reflect differently) The scores are abysmal. It is over crowded. You name it. And now the super Liberal DC judge has restarted DACA. Get out your wallet.

People in NOVA vote overwhelmingly democrat, and that's essentially the consent of the governed to be asked to contribute more of their money to the state and county.

If people weren't ok with paying more taxes, the Fairfax Board of Supervisors would be more republican. But it isn't. So people should expect to pay more because they support democrats.

I'm not sure you've been paying attention. The Republican candidates are all nuts. It's no wonder they all lose.

I think you need to take a step back from the Washington Compost and CNN. They are extremely biased and manipulative and playing naive democrats for fools.

Oh I see. I agree 100%. I'm tired of the schools crying poor and asking to raise our property taxes yet again for more and more resources for these things. They should be checking citizenship at enrollment. Yes yes I get that these kids are entitled to education while here.

still think VA is a great place to live and prefer it far more than MD. I was very disappointed that McAuliffe didnt do much for northern va. I was hoping that since he lived here, he could push through more solutions on our traffic/roads. Northum seems to just have faded into the background (except for vetoing the sanctuary cities ban).

Getting back to the original question in this thread before the politics crept in...I believe you may have see mobile emission test equipment as a couple people have suggested. I was unfamiliar with this program as well and went searching for information because I, too, had seen the setups on other Fairfax County Parkway ramps and thought they might be turning the parkway into another toll road. This site (https://rapidpassvirginia.com/VaPublic/) explains the program, which hopefully helps reduce the number of polluting vehicles on the road as well as provide a convenience for those who do maintain their vehicles.

A quick google search indicates:

Most of Virginia's poor are rural, not metro area.
Most of Virginia's immigrants are in the metro area.

So tell me again how metro area tolls are going to pay for poor immigrants PP?

so ... are they making it a toll road, or not?

I dont think its a toll road. I drove on the PKWY yesterday and there were emission boxes.

Last time I renewed my registration they told me my exhaust emissions had been automatically checked somehow (and I passed, yay) so perhaps that's what it was.

Three pages in response to a mistake (fake news).

Don't you people ever get embarrassed responding emotionally or ideologically without checking facts first?

It might be unfounded, but it doesn't change the fact that making the FCP a toll road is an idea who's time has come.

It's a natural revenue source for many types of uses: metro, schools, immigrant assistance programs, etc.

It's a very good idea.

I drive on the parkway every day and live in that area. It would make zero sense to make it a toll road. I assume you mean the section of 286 from Rolling Road down to Rt. 1. It’s really not even that heavily traveled most of the time, apart from right around the intersection with 95 during rush hour.

That being said, I’m going to echo others and say it was probably the mobile emissions stations. I see a mobile emission station from time to time on the ramp from Backlick Road to the parkway and that’s not too far from where you saw them.
