Yawn because ... big deal. Let law enforcement deal with it. Sometimes the real world inteudes even into the most tranquil, beautiful spaces. Haters get excited. |
I lived in Williamsburg for 5 years in my late twenties. We moved there for a job. There aren’t really bad areas. |
|
William & Mary is obviously a drug infested den of iniquity. Please forbid your rising Seniors from applying this fall.

I’m the op of this comment. Grove? 1607? Did either of you PPs go to those neighborhoods? I’ve lived in worse places but I am telling you there are a LOT of drugs there. |
| There are a lot of drugs everywhere. College campuses are mot immune. |
| Please. W&M was a Ecstasy central back in the mid 80's when I was in law school. UVA is a close second. These are good schools but please, it has always been thus. |
I'm not from Maryland. and I know about W&M well enough, first hand. Disaster place. |
That's not hate. These are parents who love their children and care about them ... how about this for a real thought... |

Letter from W&M student assembly to campus community:
Good afternoon, On Tuesday, April 17th, the Williamsburg Police Department (WPD) made ten arrests related to drug dealing charges, including eight students, one visiting professor, and one dining services worker. Further news reports revealed that these arrests were the result of a months-long investigation prompted by a regional task force targeting drug crimes. Since the time of the arrests, the Student Assembly leadership has met with President Reveley, Michael Fox, and the Chief of William & Mary Police, Deb Cheesebro, in an effort to determine what transpired and to discuss next steps. The administration, the campus police, and the Student Assembly Executive leadership agree that the way in which WPD handled the arrests was egregious and unacceptable, with a complete disregard for the integrity of our partnership with the City and dignity for the individuals involved. Neither President Reveley's office nor the William & Mary Police Department were made aware of the operation and were in no way involved. They have made their feelings of frustration and disappointment known to the City of Williamsburg and the Williamsburg Chief of Police. To add insult to injury, WPD sent out a press release that 1) made a disgusting and erroneous claim that the operation was in response to "unreported sexual assaults due to an increase in drug activity," 2) released the names and pictures of the students involved, and 3) thanked "community partners" for their cooperation, in spite of leaving their most important community partner, the College, completely in the dark regarding the operation. The William & Mary Police Department and the President’s office pressed WPD not to send the press release as they did, but they moved forward regardless. However, representatives from both the campus police and the WPD met today to mend the relationship between the campus community and the City, with further details coming in the next few days. Please know that the College administration, William & Mary Police Department, and the Student Assembly share in the concerns of students regarding this issue, and that we are doing everything in our power to ensure this never happens again. In times like these, it serves as a powerful reminder that we, the students of William & Mary, are the single most powerful political and economic force in Williamsburg. I urge you to involve yourself in the discussion and voice your opinions to the City of Williamsburg. They will listen. Respectfully yours, Brendan J. Boylan President, Student Assembly Samir Tawalare Vice President, Student Assembly Rachel Becker Chief of Staff, Student Assembly |

Quoting the W&M student assembly letter:
" The administration, the campus police, and the Student Assembly Executive leadership agree that the way in which WPD handled the arrests was egregious and unacceptable, with a complete disregard for the integrity of our partnership with the City and dignity for the individuals involved." What is this supposed to mean??? That hiding this horrific situation would have been better to preserve the relationship between the college and the city?? People have the right to know what environment surrounds them and/or their children if they are at or live near the college , but particularly families who either have students there or are considering sending their children to this college. It is terrible for the arrested students to have their names and faces identified, but the responsibility is theirs for what they got involved in, which is not simply using drugs, but selling it to others, which is way much more destructive. It sounds like the student body and possibly the college administration care way much less about human beings health and lives including those of the students than about their image and ensuring that W&M continues to be falsely advertised as a top notch school. |

"To add insult to injury, WPD sent out a press release that 1) made a disgusting and erroneous claim that the operation was in response to "unreported sexual assaults due to an increase in drug activity,..."
Whose judgement is this that the press release claim was "erroneous"?????? Almost certainly there has to have been an increase in sexual assaults, emotional abuse, and all kinds of terrifying incidents where there is an entrenched drug problem. Look at press releases from 2017,2016, and 2015, just for starters |
William and Mary's median SAT for accepted students this year was 1460 vs. a mean of 1431 at UVA. Above the 98th percentile. Obviously a very sucky school that no bright kid would want to attend. Very bright kids do very stupid things, or hadn't you figured that out yet? And of course no institution will try to defend itself if it feels it's been wronged. The college yesterday in it's statement addressed the issue of addiction and treatment. Not sure why W&M has been around for 325 years what with all that false advertising. |
| College can eat you alive. |
LSD, cocaine, psilocybin (mushrooms), opioids, amphetamines, steroids, hashish and marijuana......that was a standard Tuesday afternoon when I was an undergrad in Madison. |
