I signed up yesterday and opted to sync the fitness points with my Apple Health (I wear an Apple Watch). The FitPoints it is giving me seem unreal! Am I really able to swap all of those? For an average workday (commute by walking/metro), I get around 18 FitPoints (it pulled data from earlier in the week, too).
I've done Weight Watchers in the past and I find this current website has less info on it. Are there still forums for discussion, or is it only the community feed that looks like facebook? I've been playing around on the site and haven't found anything. |
fitness watches are notoriously unreliable--I probably wouldn't add 18 points a day to your eating. You can try different things (add a portion of the point, add no points, add all the points for one day the week, etc.) and see what works for you to feel full and lose weight at a reasonable pace. |
Connect- the WW Facebook type app - has replaced the old forums. You can get to it from the WW website or the phone app. I do the meetings. Although you can swap fit points for food, my WW leader strongly encourages us NOT swapping Fit Points unless you are doing very intense training, such as for a marathon, and you really need the extra calories. They are mostly now for motivation. You do get 40 or so weekly points to use as you wish through the week. Even if you adjust the settings to eat your fit points, it will default you to use the weeklies first. |
I started in August, so I'm a combo of old and new, but have lost 2 pounds a week since the new plan kicked in. I think it's fantastic. I love being able to have yogurt and eggs for "free." I also love being able to eat as many bananas and other fruits as I want. I used to think bananas were a weight-gainer. Uh-uh. I eat about 4 a day. |
This. And let’s face it: no one is going to Weight WAtchers because they’re eating too many fruits or too many pieces of skinless chicken breast. |
Regrettably, I'm about to quit. I became Lifetime on Points Plus--easily--and then had setbacks with Smart Points, which I found way too restrictive. I quit for a few months, then went back in late December to try out Freestyle. I've given that one month, and all I've seen are consistent gains.
Granted, I'm about 6 pounds above goal, so at the point where it's tough to lose weight. But I don't want to pay WW $44 a month to continue gaining. I feared this plan wouldn't work well for me because my issue is volume, plus I have to be careful with carbs. They really do want to make me overeat. It doesn't have to be chocolate cake; I was ravenous after eating chickpeas, which I love. I really wish WW would let people stick with what worked for them. The current plan is great for junk food eaters with a lot to lose. For me, at least, it isn't working. |
This was my experience with FreeStyle. I actually had my first gain with the new plan. I'm only 9 pounds from goal and lost 35 with Smart Points. I went back to Smart Points and am following an online facebook group. I actually lost 3 my first week back. |
I’m thinking of signing up, but I can’t eat eggs or dairy so there’s no appeal to get zero points for things I can’t eat. Would it still be worth it for me? |
Old system story .. once at my goal weight, the point difference between losing and maintenance was 1 serving of butter. I was expecting a happier ending. |
Fish, chicken and seafood are free. I’m vegetarian and in a vegetarian/vegan weight watchers Facebook group and there are a lot of vegans in it so I would say it could work. |
I've been on the new program since November. Started at 172 (I'm 5'5, so a solid 12), and this past Saturday at weigh in I was 156. I'll take it - considering Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years and an anniversary were all thrown in there. Pants are loose and down a dress size.
I've been through quite a few WW programs and I think this one is truly the best. I know I can absolutely eat a 10 point donut, if I want. But then I start thinking that for 10 points, I could eat 2 eggs (0), a van's whole grain waffle (2) with syrup (3), 3 slices of real bacon (5), and some fruit. Or I realize that I eat the donut, and can have grilled chicken and a salad later and be satisfied, not starving. It truly is an excellent balance for me. I feel better when I eat better. And in turn, I'm more apt to exercise. And that means I sleep better, which makes me happier. I remember a very long time ago, someone said to "choose your hard"... losing weight is hard, but so is being overweight. You choose. I do think that if you automatically think that you won't lose weight on this plan that you're right - minds are a powerful thing. I saw a weight loss specialist and she basically said that every diet works, it's just what you can stick to long term. For me, this is a good start. |
I've been doing (WW online only) since early October. I'm down 29 pounds as of this morning. I still need to lose another 40 pounds or so, but I'm thrilled with my progress. I've done Whole 30/Paleo eating for a few years, and I always gain the weight back as soon as I stop. WW seems much more reasonable, and I think it's a better long term approach for me. |
That is fabulous! Good for you. I'm day 5 into the new WW plan and know I am eating way less than usual. I fell into a pattern of eating whatever I felt like- no restraint at all. I'm trying to eat no more than 2-3 fruits per day as I could overdo it. I'm way more aware of what I'm choosing to eat- it's amazing how quickly the points add up and the plan is giving me a gut check on what I eat. I feel good about the plan and look forward to seeing if I lose anything during week one. My goal is to lose about 15 lbs. |
Reviving an old threat. I have 40lbs to lose and just started today. I'm a mom of two young kids so I'm hoping to find some quick easy meals.
Anyone on this thread still doing it and having success? |
I’ve been doing it since Feb and have lost 20 lbs. I have 35 more to go. I’m post-meniopausal so it seems miraculous to have lost weight. I like the program. |
