Purple Line Worker attacked by MS 13 Gang

Oh, and the replacement of the old gravel trail with a new paved trail will also bring more MS 13 to Bethesda. Unlike many other hispanics in the region, they do not ride mountain bikes, only narrow tired road bikes. Have you never heard of the Tour de Plunder?

PP, I giggled.

You really don't get out too much do you? Here's what happens in the real world.

https://www.abc15.com/news/region-phoenix-metro/central-phoenix/data-crime-increasing-in-some-neighborhoods-along-phoenix-light-rail

http://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2015/09/10/serious-crimes-happening-on-light-rail-trains-platforms/

There's much more than just these two recent examples. Statistics show crime near light rail is high across the country. Tbat is why this story is news worthy. The PL is coming from a gang infested areas and will bring with it crime and gang activity.

Which statistics show this, please?

Here you go: Heavy rail and light rail are NOT the same for those of you yelling about Metro. "Light rail has a 50% higher violent crime rate than heavy rail"
https://fee.org/articles/how-public-transit-undermines-safety/

http://freakonomics.com/2008/10/23/could-a-public-transit-boom-result-in-a-crime-boom/

In addition, in the past two years alone there a several dozen articles detailing the influx of violent crime near light rail staions in these cities Phoenix, Portland, LA, Minneapolis, Seattle, Baltimore, Dallas and and St. Louis to name just a few. A very small sampling:

LA:

http://www.surfsantamonica.com/ssm_site/the_lookout/news/News-2016/December-2016/12_06_2016_Theft_and_Similar_Crimes_Jump_More_50_Percent_Near_Santa_Monica_Expo_Line.html

Portland:

http://nomorefailedrail.com/failed-rail-news/

Dallas:

http://www.dallasobserver.com/news/dangers-on-a-train-crime-goes-down-everywhere-except-on-dart-7108180

Too many to list. Google yourself.

To be fair, there are studies that find a "neutral" impact on crime or say that it is tough to say for sure. But each one also points out that how the crimes are reported is a problem in getting proper numbers. There is under reporting and crimes that occur in close by neighborhoods and not actually in the stations are not counted at all in most occasions. But if you google, you will see hundreds of stories about light rail crime and the impact on communities all across the country. Anecdotal but impactful.

Look, this train is coming for those of you who are fans but don't bury your heads in the sand about what this means for Bethesda and it's crime rate, property values, high taxes and eventual flight.

Metro is also light rail. Heavy rail is industrial rail traffic.

Not only does commuter rail NOT increase crime, it likely DECREASES crime by providing increased economic opportunity and survielance.

Seriously? You have no idea what you are talking about. Please do the minimum research. Let's start with the FACT that Metro is heavy rail, not light rail. There is a serious difference.

Oh and this...http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2352146517304362

Try telling over 12 major cities that have been dealing with violent crime waves near light rail stops in the past two years or so that they are imagining the crimes ruining their communities. The liberal talking point is essentially those people weren't mugged, it was increased economic opportunity!

MS-13 is in MD. This is not news. This has nothing to do with the Purple line.

You want MS-13 ruined? Trump is not the one to do it. They love him.

MS-13 loves Trump? Oh, sweet baby girl, it's January 1 and time for you to give up the pipe.

There are also buses.

What are ms-13's activities in moco? Why would they want to travel west?

MS-13 is not going to spend its "ill gotten gains" on better shopping and restaurants. They smash and grab and never pay for anything. No parking needed. That's why they have sidewalks. Seriously, the gang members park on the sidewalks in Culmore. Tour de Plunder is more like the Tour de Cut. Let's see how much you laugh when your kid is cut at the metro

More likely they believe that if their own people cannot move here, they will still be victims of these gangs in El Salvador, etc. Therefore they support policies to reduce crime, but not policies to keep anyone from migrating here from those countries.

It’s not working for everyone to all move to one place.

not everyone is moving to one place. Still loads of people living in Central America. Refugees move to other rich countries and some to not so rich countries (lots of Syrians have moved to Jordan)

Do you think it might be because Jordan is a tad closer to Syria than the United States?

While PP is wrong about definitions (metrorail IS heavy rail) he is correct that all existing studies show no increase in crime from transit, and none show an increase. All the accusastions (including the claim that light rail has a different impact than heavy rail) are anecdotal (I read the freakonimics piece, and it had no data- surprising for them).
