No mention of this in Bethesda Magazine or the WaPo. We can only guess why. This happened way back in October and the story was ignored until DC news stations picked it up. Even now with DC media coverage, crickets from our local news. Bad publicity for their pet project. Anyone who says Bethesda violent crime will not go up when this thing is finished has their head in the clouds. One of the teen gang members has since been murdered. This is frightening.

He was not attacked. You should ask Jeff to rename the post.
MS-13 is in MD. This is not news. This has nothing to do with the Purple line. You want MS-13 ruined? Trump is not the one to do it. They love him. |
| Happy for Jeff to rename post. Threatened...whatever. He was lucky to escaspe with his life. One of gang members is now dead. This happened right on the proposed line and has nothing to do with Trump. Nice try deflecting from what will soon be a very real problem for Bethesda Chevy Chase. There is a reason this story was buried and ignored. I am sure PP aproves of the non reporting of this story. |
You are exactly correct. |
If you have a problem with the proper reporting of news, then you are the problem and in the wrong country if you want to pick and choose your news like a communist state. Back the to subject. We are already having gang problems early into the project, this does not bode well. |
|
You really have an axe to grind with the Purple Line project, OP. This has NOTHING to do with the Purple Line. MS-13 would be occupying vacant houses even without this construction project. The article says the gang was occupying a house slated for demolition which was on the PL path, and the employee walked in for one last inventory. The two gang members present didn't hurt him and fled, but they did show a gun, which is why they are accused of "accosting at gunpoint". Really, check yourself. |
I don't approve or disapprove. Of course this will be a problem. Gangs are a problem in MoCo. It is no longer newsworthy. |
|
Why are you picking this story instead of the many MURDERS perpetrated by the gang? Can you understand that a story where the victim is physically unharmed is less newsworthy than a story where the victim is beheaded and buried in Wheaton Regional park? |
This story IS noteworthy. So is the Wheaton one. The local TV news stations are covering this story. The local papers that have endorsed the PL have not. The PL will be a main artery connecting gang ridden high crime areas to a low crime non gang infested one. This was a Purple Line worker who fortunately escaped with his life. Procedures were changed. Newsworthy for many reasons and also forshadowing what to expect in new Bethesda. I am very concerned with attempts to bury this story. It does not fit the PL narrative that the politicians want people to believe. |
|
The fear about the Purple Line and crime is that the PL will enable criminals to more easily get to other parts of the county where crime is currently less of an issue.
Regardless of whether you think that is a valid fear or not, what happened recently clearly had nothing to do with the PL. Since the line hasn't been built yet, it clearly hasn't been carrying anyone who might then choose to commit illegal acts. |
| OP, there is a new invention that I think you will not like: the automobile. Using these dastardly devices, gang members can actually DRIVE anywhere they want to go! Isn't that awful?! And apparently these automobile thingies are not absurdly expensive, like even a poor can get one. Yeah, I know, President Trump needs to get on this. |
There are also buses. What are ms-13's activities in moco? Why would they want to travel west? |
Based on what I have read, MS-13 seems to mostly terrorize the Hispanic immigrant community. |
The Post just had a huge story on MS-13. What are you talking about? They have been covered a ton locally. |
Who is now afraid to talk to local law enforcement thanks to Trump and Sessions. http://www.cnn.com/2017/07/28/us/ms-13-gang-long-island-trump/index.html |
