This is like saying, If you like the Upper East Side, I would check out Staten Island.

Idiot. Go finish that last glass of wine and pass out. Your regular routine.

Bluemont is honestly becoming as hot as neighboring Westover. The poster who likened Westover to the Upper East Side and Bluemont to Staten Island isn't drinking wine, she's hitting the bong.

Huh? Westover has a cute downtown with the Italian Store, a farmer’s market, Lebanese Taverna, etc. Bluemont has a clock repair shop and a Safeway that is barely functional.

If you think that qualifies as a downtown, you should contemplate getting out more.

They finally tore down that wall between Bluemont and Westover. So now citizens can travel freely between the two neighborhoods that are right next to each other.

The Wall is down, but everything south of Washington Blvd. remains under oppressive Communist rule, and it is difficult to bring supplies to the impoverished citizens.

Continue the fight, citizens. We will not stop until we have Italian Store for all!!

I live nearby in Dominion Hills, and from what I’ve seen, Bluemont is a bit of an anachronism. There are the standard $1.3 million Arlington teardowns with biglaw parents and 1.8 kids. But there also are a lot of older houses with families that have been there for decades, and they are understandably very vocal about any issue that they think might possibly change the feel of the neighborhood (Ballston development, something about bocce courts, etc.). IMO, they are only delaying the inevitable - just look down east on Wilson Blvd. to see all the cranes.

That's right. Westover has the Village which has caused housing prices to rise. Bluemont houses tend to be less expensive, thus its increased popularity

Perhaps MONA could have a housing economist explain supply and demand to you and the other SAHMs

LOL. Guess you haven't met too many SAHMs in these parts. Some were the housing economists.

Tell us more about "the Village". Sounds like you are very knowledgeable.

This may be unhelpful to you, OP, if you’ve decided you definitely want to make the move. But we were contemplating a similar move about 8 years ago when our kids were small. Instead, we stuck it out in DC.

Our kids got into a great DCPS a few blocks away from our house. Then six years later, our oldest got into a charter middle/high school that is incomparably better than the schools I grew up with. Meanwhile, we get to keep our short commutes and nice community.

I'm the poster from Dominion Hills. I don't think there's even a comparison between Westover and Bluemont. Westover is just a more livable neighborhood with fun walkable businesses and better schools (depending on what part of Bluemont you're in). Bluemont probably eventually will be more livable as the development moves west down Wilson and the neighborhood gets less of an angry reputation.

Bluemont has a lovely park. Much nicer area.

They are both perfectly fine neighborhoods. And really right next to each other...

This thread is ridiculous.

Bluemont and Westover have much more in common than Westover and Cherrydale.
Westover has truly become the spot for those who can’t do better. It’s why the schools are so crowded. All the middle class strivers shoehorning themselves in...
But go on with your bad selves. Enjoy “downtown” Westover.

Yuck. Don’t fall for the line about DC charters.
