Arlington neighborhood thoughts?

Anonymous
My husband and I have lived in DC for nearly 20 years (Hill, Woodley, currently U street). Now considering a move, mainly for schools--we have a toddler. We like the proximity of Arlington and hear a lot about Arlington school quality. I had a friend who lived in Westover and I love that area--doesn't seem to be a whole lot of housing stock open though. We are also slightly familiar with Cherrydale but prefer Westover. Are there any other parts of Arlington that feel similar--where you've got a good neighborhood or community feel, with walkable shops and restaurants? We work in downtown and SW DC so transit connections are highly desirable--we don't drive all that much and don't want to be in a neighborhood where a car is needed for everything. We're looking for a 3 BR, bungalow style preferred, something in the 1,500-2,000 SF range. Thanks for any suggestions!

Budget? If you like Westover, many areas between Wilson Blvd and Lee Highway will work.

op here. 800,000-1M. I would love to have specific neighborhoods to consider.

Lyon Park/Ashton Heights is also very walking-friendly and sometimes has homes in your budget.

Westover and Cherrydale are not really possible with that budget, not for SFH.

Of course houses are available in that price range.

In the general Westover area, west of George Mason Rive, look within the neighborhoods of Lacey Forest, Summit and Veitch, Overlee Knolls, Westover Hills, Leeway Heights, and East Falls Church,

In the general Cherrydale area east of George Mason Drive, look at Waverly Hills, Woodlawn, and Waycroft

We kept running into the same agent at open houses, and she tipped us off to the good houses coming on the market.

Make sure it's Yorktown zoned, even Yorktown has gone down hill. McLean would be a better option unless you do private

The schools are, as indicated by the many threads on the topic, in a general state of decline and flux.
