This is like saying, If you like the Upper East Side, I would check out Staten Island.

Idiot. Go finish that last glass of wine and pass out. Your regular routine.

Bluemont is honestly becoming as hot as neighboring Westover. The poster who likened Westover to the Upper East Side and Bluemont to Staten Island isn't drinking wine, she's hitting the bong.

Huh? Westover has a cute downtown with the Italian Store, a farmer’s market, Lebanese Taverna, etc. Bluemont has a clock repair shop and a Safeway that is barely functional.

If you think that qualifies as a downtown, you should contemplate getting out more.

+1. The Westover “downtown” gets boring after 5 minutes.

I don't think anyone thinks Westover is a destination hotspot. It is however outstanding at being an old school neighborhood main street. A few restaurants, a couple bars, dry cleaning, barbershops, post office, library, pharmacy, etc.

I wish the Chinese take-out and the dive bar were better, but otherwise its a solid place to have in the neighborhood.

And be sure to complain extensively about your overcrowded schools. We never tire of hearing about it!

Is that McKinley? I remember the thread that seemingly went on for years about how APS gave them a raw deal.

All will be better when Reed schools re-opens as a neighborhood school and those high income kids living in Tara, Larchmont, and Leeway Heights no longer bring their slacker ways to McKinley.

But which one of the other schools gets turned into a choice program to make this a reality? Tuckahoe, Nottingham, or Discovery? MONA death match to determine.

I'm guessing Discovery. It is already so f**d up that the choice program won't even be noticed.

Back to the OPs question. I love Leeway Overlee. Walkable to the pool and Lee Harrison shops. Tons of kids.

Oh yes, and it is only going to be worse when the school boundaries are unveiled. Hang on to your hats ladies and gentlemen.

Westover and Cherrydale are not really possible with that budget, not for SFH.

My wife and I just closed on a nice brick colonial in Westover for $865K. There were certainly other options in the same price range.

This troll pops up on most threads discussing Arlington. Ignore.

We walk to pentagon city, 23rd street restaurants, the library, multiple parks, the metro. We've been happy with Oakridge and Gunston so far. Yes, Oakridge is crowded but we had a good experience. Neighbors are friendly.

But you're not able to be a member of MONA.

Another benefit. South Arlington gets better and better.

You do what most people do. Buy a $500,000 condo in North Arlington and use that address to get into MONA

Meanwhile you have a fabulous house in 22202, 22204, 22206 and only have to travel to North Arlington for the MONA initiation rite in which you have to find a parking space in the Lee Harrison center in 30 seconds. You are eligible for the MONA board if you can park your car and not scrape, ding, block or otherwise damage another SUV or minivan

MONA membership is worth it for the entertainment value.

See, OP? South Arlington people are kind, good-hearted souls who are never nasty or sarcastic about anything or disparage anyone. Kumbaya, muthafucka.

Kumbaya girl, I live in the much vaunted 22207 zip code of NORTH Arlington and have been a MONA member for almost 6 years. If one can't laugh at one's foibles, one must resort to poor attempts at humor ending with the ever reliable vulgarity.

I lived in 22207 for seven years before moving away due to the schools. I always found this notion that South Arlington people are more laid back or down to earth to be silly. In my extensive experience with families across a wide swath of activities, it’s a complete myth. They are wound every bit as tight as North Arlington parents and generally have more anxiety attributable to perceived station in life.

Moved for the schools? What was your exact concern — Yt and WL are still fine schools or are you looking for something elite?

Moved for the schools? What was your exact concern — Yt and WL are still fine schools or are you looking for something elite?

The stress of overcrowding is showing in APS. We weren’t looking for something “elite” rather something sane. Curiously dd’s new high school is rated higher than both Yorktown and WL now. It has 1300 students, nearly 90% college matriculation, and more opportunities in activities. Also easier to get into Virginia’s better public schools due to the smaller size and the unspoken quota system at Northern Virginia Schools. Also, less racism incidents and drugs and alcohol abuse so far as I can tell.

Yorktown and WL are fine Schools. But they were no longer a good fit for what my kids needed.

You must live in western Loudoun now and that's a complete non-starter for most Arlington residents, given where they work.
