Is this the end for Sup. Jack Smith?

All anyone needs to know is how he has handled this. Every person I spoke with that went to the meeting last night thought he was pathetic. PATHETIC - 15 minutes of answering questions is all he would take despite the line of folks wanting to ask questions, that says a lot about his commitment to the community. Don't you agree????? I am sure he is getting to those index cards today....

That was laughable. I hate when people don't take accountability. He's pathetic. The buck stops with him. He doesn't get it. This job is way to high profile for him and he's NOT a problem solver. He behaves like a coward who cares more about looking good not about the school system and the kids. Shit he just tried to throw everybody he works with under the bus. Disgusting.

Plus he couched it from the beginning that if you thought different than him you were a racist. Way to open the dialog.

What on earth was he supposed to say? He said the individual was at fault but that he took responsibility, that this shouldn't be about race or immigration status but about a girl who needs the support of the community. What exactly should he have done? This thread is proof that NO ONE can do right in this job.

Totally seriously - what would you prefer he had said (though I agree he should have addressed it earlier).

That he intended to break federal law and ban undocumented children, or the children of undocumented parents?

That's obviously what folks want, but he can't say that because he can't do that.

We want these adult criminals to be offered evening classes.
What part of that don't you understand?

What adult criminals? Nobody is a criminal yet. Innocent u til proven guilty and these guys were both minors when they entered the school system, and neither had any sort of criminal record or even contact with the police prior to this. You can't just randomly assign people to adult classes. If it's even Constitutional.

Not the PP but I want older teens who are uneducated and can't speak English (basically those who meet the METS criteria) to not be in the same high schools as our children. THey should be offered night classes or go elsewhere. There are 500+ of them in 12 High schools in the county. This needs to change. Especially if they can't properly be vetted. I think this is reasonable.

I guess we missed the change.org where the Calvert County School System removed him for passing his pockets.

Note that he stepped in temporarily as MSDE supt after Lowery left. Then he came to MCPS.

Seriously? Why does it have to always come back to this? Don't you get it? We don't want our children to be put at risk by being in the same schools as ADULTS who arw not here legally and cannot be vetted. Why are we being demonized for wanting safe schools???

Can you point out exactly which posts you think are 'hysterical'?

IMO, many of these posts sound like concerned parents who are trying to figure out what exactly is going on in MCPS that allowed a 14 year old girl to be RAPED at her school.

He clearly wanted to sweep this under the rug. Just another overpaid scumbag bureaucrat.

We all want safe schools. You are not being demonized for wanting safe schools. In fact, you're not being demonized at all. You are being disagreed with. Your opinion is that we can make schools safe by keeping 17-year-old and 18-year-old unauthorized immigrants out of them. My opinion is that this will not actually make schools safer and may make society in general more dangerous.

When he crossed the border he became a criminal

And the first time you drove faster than the speed limit you became a criminal. So we're all criminals.
