Every time an unacceptable nominee is confirmed because it was not possible filibuster the nomination, blame Harry Reid and the other Democrats who voted for the nuclear option. All the Democrats with the exception of three senators supported passage of the nuclear option and there was not a single Republican who supported it.

If veterans are so wonderful why do we have to give them preference for all federal jobs, wouldn't they just get them anyways since they are so superior to non-vets? Some of our veteran applicants are functionally illiterate, but they sure do love America.

No, they did what they felt needed to be done ..... and now they can live with the consequences.

There is a reason why the filibuster has survived for so many years: most senators realized that fortunes could change down the line and they wanted to preserve their right to block appointments. Heck, Reid was already talking about eliminating the filibuster for Supreme court appointments because he assumed Hillary would win.

But this is not any different than when Obama selected his cabinet or Supreme Court nominations - he selected individuals who shared his political philosophy.

Are there any nominations or appointments by Trump that liberals feel represent qualified individuals even if they don't agree with their conservative leanings?

And did you not know that Obama picked as a replacement for Scalia a moderate whom just about every Republican senator years before had said was an example of a good moderate SCOTUS nominee?? But because it was Obama nominating him, the white boys of the senate thought they could teach that president a lesson and refuse to consider him.

As a liberal, I will say the majority of his appointments are sane and many are qualified. I don't like their political philosophy in some instances but that is neither here nor there because like it or not, Trump won the election and he made it abundantly clear that he was going to appoint conservatives. I am surprised at quite how conservative some of them are but that is his right.

Most will sail through because quite frankly the Republicans control the senate and there are several Democrats who are shit scared they will be voted out of office in 2018 and are likely to support confirmation. And since there is no filibuster - thanks to Reid and the Democrats - there should be no stumbling blocks.

Rather, this has to do with the fact that he has picked people who are philosophically opposed to the very mission of the agency they will lead: a climate change denier for EPA, a charter school champion for Ed, and a crazy person who believes subsidized housing is communism and fair housing laws are social engineering for HUD. Plus, he's picked people who are known (and seemingly proud) racists for other key posts.

If you can't understand why people---both liberals and conservatives alike---are concerned, then you should probably try harder.
