Second grader feels badly about height

Yep. My second born little son is a soccer phenom. He even plays up in age--on top travel team. Going into 4th grade. He has super self-esteem and doesn't even seem aware most kids are taller---or he doesn't give a shit. Lots of friends, not shy. Filled with 'tude.

He waivers between 16-20% height.

His older brother two years older is 85% height.

If he's still short in a few years, consider HGH. Height can have a big impact on a man's life.

HGH is not going to make someone who would naturally be short become tall. It got Lionel Messi to all of 5'7". It would not be a prudent choice for a boy in the short range of normal.

Messi took HGH???

Yes. Read his biography. It wasn't for performance issues and just used in childhood/early teens.

He was born with GHD. He was 4'2" when he was diagnosed.

He was a tiny superstar when he was discovered and already knew he had the disease. His family was struggling to pay for treatment. Barcelona paid for the medical treatment for his poor family.

OP here. I feel like maybe I wasn't clear. I don't think he is not great at sports because of his height. He is just a kid who happens to be both (1) short and (2) not especially athletic. These are two things that are difficult for a boy.

I posted previously that I have a short 2nd grader. He isn't especially athletic either. I'd say he is average at sports. He is a great kid with lots of friends. Every single one of his friends is bigger than him. He is loved and we encourage him in his interests. You don't need to be tall to play minecraft or trade pokemon cards.

Do you think your child is being bullied?

No, I would not exactly say that. I would say that kids that otherwise like him fine and interact with him fine sometimes tease him about his height, and he does not like that.

My son is 13 and has always been around the 5% for height. He never got teased much although occasionally a new student would make fun of him. He just made sure he had a few comments ready for them He started rowing last year. The men's rowing team sometimes uses a girl as the coxswain b/c they can't find a boy small enough. The team loves him and now he has a bunch of big guys to keep an eye on him in school in case anyone wants to tease him. Those rowers are BIG!

Its irrelevant how tall he is. My son is short and h doesnt give a sxxt. Rising 4th grader

I think you need to teach him some comebacks to any height insults ad get him to be self-deprecating about it.

My stepson is extremely short -- he is about to turn 13 and by far the shortest one of all his friends although he is the oldest. My 7 year old is about an inch shorter than him, which makes it especially tough. However, he just embraces it and makes it part of who he is and wore t-shirts that say things like "aren't you a little short to be a stormtrooper" which just disarms kids who might want to pick on him because he obviously doesn't care about it.

Truth be told, he does care, but he doesn't show it and that works.

There's not a lot you can do. It's tough being short, especially for a boy, but nothing can be done. HGH is not good at all if you have a kid who's just genetically short.

I hate that so many people are pushing sports. I have a father, a husband, and a son who ALL dislike sports. It is ok to be male and not be into sports.

Why not find an sport he likes?

The only sport he likes is swimming, which we encourage, but honestly, most of the kids on his swim team are either female or older, [u]so it doesn't really help with socializing or feeling differently about his height.

Huh? What swim team is that?

Short men rock. My DH and my DS are short. I love it. I am 5'8 and years ago dated a 5'4 guy and i wore heels.

To be short AND not interested in sports is like 2 strikes against a boy.
