It was really weird. He was always such a boring, pointless character in my opinion. Just making Rory really awkward and weird |
Yes definitely. The new writers for the last seasons just had no idea what to do. The Luke's daughter storyline completely ruined his character, Lorelai and Christopher getting married was so stupid, etc. hopefully They will have Rory and Jess getting together again |

Dean was like a big, lovable, loyal Golden Retriever.
Rory never really got to know Jess. He was moody and sullen, and very condescending to her. They had a very short relationship compared to the ones that she had with Dean and Logan. Yeah, they have good chemistry and he (hopefully) matured b/c there was no where to go but up in that category. I get why people dislike Logan as he was a little smarmy, especially in the beginning trying to get Rory out of her comfort zone. I don't think she would have been as ambitious without him sadly b/c her boyfriends have all been crutches in one way or another. There she was at Yale rooming with a girl from her high school, not having a social life. She seemed incredibly sheltered. Whether or not Logan's character was rich, he would have helped her open up to new things. They made him ridiculously rich so they could have cool storylines of Life and Death Brigade antics with vintage clothes and wild parties. Yeah, Logan has that unctuous rich-boy quality, But truly, I think their chemistry was good, their dialogue exchanges humorous, and he sincerely seemed to love her: |
In the words of Bob Dylan, who was mentioned above: I never took much I never asked for your crutch Now don't ask for mine. |

Jess's reading list:

I think Luke having a daughter gave him more dimension. I loved the scenes of him hanging out with April, discussing her friends at school and the latest gossip. It was so fun to see that side of him. I hated the fact that they made him want to postpone the wedding to Lorelai, just so he could get to know April (couldn't he get to know her AND be married), but I thought the general idea of him having a daughter was kind of cool. It also showed what a great dad he would be if he and Lorelai ever did have kids. Speaking of that, at the end of season 7 when he and Lorelai finally kiss and it's implied they get back together - is she still young enough to have kids? My guess is she's about 38 by that point, so I suppose she is. I hope they hurry up though! I do completely agree with you about Lorelai and Christopher getting married - how ridiculous. And I *really* hope Rory and Jess get back together. I can see them living in a funky place in Philadelphia, him writing and her reporting/writing. I always thought they were on the same wavelength. |
I wasn't a fan of Logan's, but thought it was so stupid how he just ended things completely when she said she couldn't marry him. Surely they could have given the long-distance thing a try if they were THAT in love?! It was just weird. "You won't marry me? Ok, see ya." And Rory didn't even fight for him, she just let him walk away. She can be very passive. On the other hand, I was glad to see Rory finally be on her own for awhile. It seemed she always had a boyfriend, from the time she was 16. |
Are you drunk? |
Actually, much of this would explain why he could be so dickish. Jack Kerouac's On the Road is such poorly written, self-indulgent drivel. And don't get me started on Ayn Rand. The Fountainhead is like the college boy's how to guide on how to be a self-centered, pretentious prick. |
I was surprised that, according to that article, Rory tried to get Jess to read Ayn Rand. Ha! Of course Jess would like Kerouac, Ginsberg, and Burroughs, though. I think his character was based on those types of Beat Generation writers. And he was tackling Ulysses in high school. Nice. |
No, I was at work. The PP's use of the word "crutch" and another PP's mention of Bob Dylan made me think of Dylan's "Fourth Time Around." |
I think the writers were trying to make a tidy ending. The break up seemed contrived and thrown in. It was up in the air whether Gilmore Girls was coming back for yet another season. If it had been a sure thing and availability of the actor who played Logan was locked in, they probably would have drawn out the relationship into the next season. Either them reuniting and culminating with a wedding or calling it quits for good. |
| The only way she ends up with Marty is in a body bag. That dude had future serial killer written all over him. |
