I get why people dislike Logan as he was a little smarmy, especially in the beginning trying to get Rory out of her comfort zone.  I don't think she would have been as ambitious without him sadly b/c her boyfriends have all been crutches in one way or another.  There she was at Yale rooming with a girl from her high school, not having a social life.  She seemed incredibly sheltered.

Whether or not Logan's character was rich, he would have helped her open up to new things.  They made him ridiculously rich so they could have cool storylines of Life and Death Brigade antics with vintage clothes and wild parties.  Yeah, Logan has that unctuous rich-boy quality, But truly, I think their chemistry was good, their dialogue exchanges humorous, and he sincerely seemed to love her:
