What is it with Montgomery County?

Anonymous
It is not unusual or unreasonable to expect them to need 72-96 hours to clear the roads after a large storm. If you think about it, that's an incredibly successful accomplishment.

OMG. It stopped snowing on Saturday and half of it melted today. Its down to about 1.5 feet. Its beyond idiotic that it is taking them all week. The only thing dumber is claiming this is a success or an accomplishment. The kids are going to end up going back when its all melted and gone. Yippee! MCPS waited out the snow for it to melt. Great work everyone. Raises for everyone! As long as you set the bar so low, public officials will lap it up and be less and less efficient.

Schools in the northern part of the county are still digging out. Maybe the school system needs to be broken into north county and south county.

BUT, I also think the fault lies with the county public works department. The roads are not properly plowed. Why they cannot get the plows out there to finish the job is beyond my comprehension. I have not seen one plow working today...not one. Every time I saw a plow, they were not plowing. So pathetic!!!

I just drove down 355 tonight and there are still multiple places that it is 1 lane instead of 3 lanes. It is so dangerous. I haven't seen a snow plow actually plowing in 3 days. How have they not fixed these major roads. Heck, the on ramp to 495 on River Rd was plowed in until yesterday afternoon. Pathetic

And now they cancel school yet another day.

And this is one of the richest counties in the country?

They are too big.
They waste tax dollars
They don't have a snow emergency plan
They rely on county snow plows to do their lots when most school districts in the country have smaller counties or private clean-up service in their budget
They build too fast without having any schools to put the kids entering the new homes
They have a monopoly on the booze and liquor licenses and none of that money is going to where it should be (so corrupt)
The school board wastes money time and time again ($11 million on changing the times 20 minutes) and then complains they don't have enough each year for their budget
They are liberal so they give away our taxes on citizens that are not even legal
Most of the county that is rich don't send their kids to public so they don't care what the schools are like
The middle class is shrinking faster than ever

So true!

This county is just too big and has grown so much that it is just not being managed effectively. The school system, the public services, anything.

If it makes you feel any better, my family in NC got about an inch of snow and 2-3'' of ice and just went back to school today ... on a two-hour delay. Granted, it's the south and they don't have the money or the equipment like we do, but it was 2-3 INCHES. And it's been above freezing since it fell. Seriously?

Can I getta AMEN!!!

This entire region honestly sucks. The people, the traffic, the over-building, the roads, the tolls, the corrupt politicians, the over-priced housing for high-ratio crappy schools. Everyone is either rich or trying to act rich (keep up with the Jones's in severe debt) or they are lower class expecting $15 to flip burgers. It just seems like normal middle class people are gone. Oh and the fact that most of the DMV doesn't speak English doesn't help much either. Just a transient location. Not a home. Never will be.

Boo hoo. You sound like every other low-IQ Trump supporter. Feel free to leave; you won't be missed.

Why don't you move your ass south? I have a friend who lives in Georgia. His county does not own a snowplow. He has seen snow once in his life.

We are falling apart. We are no longer the richest either. Loudon, Arlington, Fairfax and Howard have all surpassed us in the last five years. We are on our way to becoming the next PG county.

Not the PP but it has nothing to do with snow. It is the management of it. How come PA, De, NJ, and NY stages are all back in school already? Chicago rarely has a day off. Even Obama made fun of DC snow days when he first moved here.

I'm on my third winter here and after every snow, no matter how minor, this comes up. Can someone who has been here a while tell me why this has not happened/why it won't be happening? Thanks.

My guess is that because the wealthy parts of the county are concentrated very close together, splitting the county would mean a significant loss of revenue for the other parts.

Maybe we could leave that alone but just split the snow decisions?

Whatever, Fairfax cancelled school for the rest of the week already...if you want to complain about the whole DC area, fine, but MoCo is no worse off than the other counties in terms of school closings, plowing, etc.

Not true. Fairfax and Loudon plan ahead with more snow days. FC has 11 and LC has 14
