What is it with Montgomery County?

It's not special ed transportation that is the huge problem. It's all the magnets and kids on COSAs who don't really have a hardship.

Almost two decades of teaching in this county, including 5 years at a magnet. Also my older child attended two magnet schools.

I.e., anecdotes. Which are not data.

Schools in the northern part of the county are still digging out. Maybe the school system needs to be broken into north county and south county.

I'm on my third winter here and after every snow, no matter how minor, this comes up. Can someone who has been here a while tell me why this has not happened/why it won't be happening? Thanks.

Because it would be administrative chaos. Kids from all over the county go to school all over the county.

But that has always been a problem as well. Get rid of magnets and hgc. More wasted tax dollars

Then it's time to break that up. Many more kids go to their neighborhood schools than go far across the county. I'd be curious to see the actual numbers of kids traveling from Bethesda to Damascus or Silver Spring to Barnesville on a daily basis. Rethinking the way specialty schools are set up and how transportation works could solve a lot of other problems.

And money!

Have a bus depot for each section. Close schools based on their section AND have a pool of dedicated subs for the sections that are open since many teachers might not be able to make it in.

This is what other states do.

Let's get rid of special ed too. And specials. Also sports, drama, and music programs. And electives. And grades. All, all wasted tax dollars. What we need is to go back to the basics: one-room school houses with 48 kids (who walked there) and one teacher, who is an unmarried, non-pregnant woman.

In which states is the school district the whole state?

^^^I mean, there is the Puerto Rico Department of Education, but Puerto Rico isn't a state, and they probably don't have a lot of snow days anyway.

Most of the counties in this region are closed. Are you planning to move further south? Where hopefully it won't snow, but if it does they will be even less prepared. Good luck wherever you decide to move.

And every county above Baltimore has re-opened and many had just as much snow as us. Other areas can handle snow. Have a plan in place when they know a blizzard is coming. NY was only supposed to get 8-12" and got socked with over 2 feet. Yet they were more prepared than the area with the bullseye.

I'm sure if we paid property taxes like NY's we could have clean roads too.

You want to rethink special programs and special ed because of the few snow days a year where there is more snow in one part of the county than another part?

It's not special ed transportation that is the huge problem. It's all the magnets and kids on COSAs who don't really have a hardship.

Kids with COSAs don't get transportation.

How many bus depots does MCPS have right now, and where are they? Do you know?

Five or six:
Bethesda
Clarksburg
Randolph
Shady Grove North and South
West Farm

In other words, MCPS already has what the PP-with-all-the-answers thinks they ought to have -- but the PP-with-all-the-answers doesn't know it.

You are a complete ass. Magnets and HCG's are not needed. Special ed and school programs are. But nice try attempting to compare
