URGENT HELP NEEDED-MCPS DID NOT RECEIVE HGC ELEMENTARY PROGRAM APPLICA-TEST IS NEXT WEEK-WHAT TO DO

Anonymous
NP here. Sorry that happened OP. What a crappy situation.

Honestly, I wouldn't have thought to send it return receipt requested, but I'll make sure I do that if we apply for DD.

I hope that they allow your child to test.

We always dropped off in person for HGC and MS magnet apps but we never got a receipt.

They tell you to include a pre-addressed, stamped postcard so that they can return it stamped with their particular stamp as proof you sent in the application on time.

When I dropped off the app, someone gave me my stamped card straightaway. When I dropped off the app for the magnet middle school test, that lady was away but I received the postcard soon after.

If you don't receive your postcard a couple of weeks later, CALL AEI (not the home school, they have no authority in this matter). AEI themselves advise you to do this, presumably because every year some applications fall through the cracks.

He had the opportunitY. They didn't get the application, so it's gone now.

Go to the montgomery courthouse and ask for an injunction so no hgc tests are given to any students till this is straightened out!

That's weird, I turned mine in in person (Silver Spring office) and received no such stamp or receipt. I don't remember seeing that suggested in the paperwork, either. I also never received a confirmation email, but I did receive the note in the mail about the test date.

When I didn't get the letter for test date for my DC, i contacted my school to find out if my DC is taking the test. She said yes. But yesterday, she said my DC's name is not in the list. It looks like MCPS never received my application. Test is next week. I don't understand what should I do. My DC is very upset.
Any suggestion in this regard will be highly appreciated.

My daughter got into an HGC from a private school; there was another testing session to accommodate kids outside of MCPS and kids who were sick on the testing day. Even if you can't convince them to let your kid take the test next week it's possible you could get into this extra testing session. Good luck.

Any update, OP?

If I were you, my approach would be very humble -- I'm so sorry, I mailed it on [date], I know I should have followed up, but I didn't, that was my mistake, isn't there anything we can do to fix things, please?

Had you told the teacher that you were applying?

I have 2 middle schoolers who applied both to HGC and middle school magnet. The MS magnet applications did say to include a self addressed stamped postcard, but I don't remember this being a part of the HGC application.

That is a good outcome. Hope it works out.
