Racists and agists. They will never give a brown or black person any credit no matter how accomplished they are.

They already demonstrated that amply with President Obama.

The how to explain the support of Dr. Ben Carson and Sens. Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio in the GOP??

Like herman cain, they'll never be the republican presidential nominee.

Even though cruz and rubio are white.

They're Hispanic, aren't they?? Since you brought up appearance, frankly, Castro appears more Asian than Hispanic.

At least Julian Castro's Cuban cousins, Fidel and Raul, have more relevant experience for leading a country.

Often, people come on and make comments like this:

The San Antonio mayoralty is a figurehead position with no power. HUD is a pretty third tier cabinet job. Even the Secretary of Veterans Affairs has more clout.

HUD or the Department of Housing and Urban Development is a Cabinet level agency with a $30 billion annual budget that was created in 1965 to address the issue of housing inequality. Back in 1965, minorities faced discrimination when finding a place to live that is unimaginable today. Even today, over $30 billion is expended to achieve the goal of fair housing policy and providing dignity and safety for millions of poor people.

Even with this important mission, there are those who can glibly say that it is a third tier agency that is inconsequential.

People who make these kinds of statements care nothing for the poor, the homeless, the weak and downtrodden in society. Basically this attitude is in line with mainstream republican ideology.

Republicans are against fair housing, housing, feeding and providing healthcare for the poor, including children, the disabled and even veterans.

Republican ideology is disgraceful.

Julian Castro is Hispanic and hated by racists for who he is, not for what he stands more.

But furthermore, racists hate HUD, Medicare, Medicaid, food stamps even if it means children go hungry (women, infants and children or WIC).

Republicans and racists are disgraceful.

And they live among us in DCUM.

I am proudly liberal and have no use for the idiots on the Right who seem to base their political beliefs on fear and hatred, but the fact of the matter is HUD is a third-tier agency. Sorry, it just is.

And the other fact of the matter is that Julianito is still too callow and inexperienced. Sorry, he just is.

22-year old grad student, part-time flack for Castro's inflated political ambitions. When you're HUD secretary, it's not like you can afford a personal super-PAC, just a little PACito. If the secretary had real cojones, he'd throw his hat in to run for governor of Texas or for senator against Ted Cruz, and get some real seasoning and experience. It's unclear, however, whether he could win a race outside of his hometown of San Antonio.

The biggest problem with this subject is you, your interpretations and you. Your declaration that anyone who opposes Castro as an option for VIP or correctly addresses his lack of political experience is a racist etc. is asinine. Fact is, he WAS a figurehead mayor, has little political experience and if he was white he highly doubtful he would be the HUD secretary. Why can't you see that as a simple statement based on reality.

As for your obsession, there is help available but one has to recognize the problem and be willing to get the help. Little hope that will happen with you.

Do you realize how much supply would be increased, driving housing prices down and helping with racial integration?

To be fair, the US housing market is at least in part driven by people like my wife who insist on a SFH. With that said, she did give urban living a fair chance but that was in the early 2000s.

The decline of older suburbs might accelerate in that case as folks who now live in a 600k 1950s rambler in Rockville for affordability reasons could buy a classic 6 in the area formerly known as Woodley Park. Folks who want shiny and new on a limited budget would still live further out though. Not sure if Clarksburg/South Riding would become war zones as shiny and new lovers can now afford to build anew in Rockville and Wheaton (and the former residents of those areas flee further out) or if the HOAs would prevent the worst of the social ills from taking root.

Too many limo liberals in our party. Ted Cruz lives in a more progressive/urban style home than the Clintons

And you can make fun of project housing and section 8 all you want, but millions had a roof over their heads due to these efforts, as imperfect as they were. But republicans, racists from the sidelines don't want to improve the system. They just want to throw nuts from the peanut gallery. The projects and other public housing were rough, but still better than what people had before, which were hovels without heat, running water or worse.

Tilting at windmills again.

Hey pal it's not like the Dems need Castro to keep you from voting GOP, when the likely Republican nominee plans to build a grande wall to keep the illegals out and round up the rest!

Too early to know who the Republican candidate will be, and his specific proposals.

What is clear is that Obama has been the Deporter-in-Chief, and a complete failure in terms of immigration reform, so I, and many others, will look for specific and tangible proposals before we decide our vote.

The original proposal by Rubio and others was pretty reasonable, fyi.
