I spent the worst 18 months at HUD and stay in touch with some colleagues who are on a task force to get rid of HUD. It is usually run by a former mayor with political aspirations who can deliver the minority vote in an upcoming presidential election. Castro will probably be able to that for the democratic candidate. He may not get the VP job, but they will move him up from a third tier agency to something like HHS.

He wouldn't have the balls to take HHS after seeing what happened to sebilius.

What the White House did to her was indeed disgusting, but Castro should still be interested. To move up it's either something like HHS or a governor campaign, and the latter requires even more balls

Did you read the politico article? He was offered DHS but turned it down because he was scared that a terror attack would blowback on him if he was in charge and would cut his political future to shreds.

Deep down he knows he's an affirmative action baby that has zero competence or intellectual vigor to excel. He fears being exposed.

Catro strikes me as a dumber, if somewhat more affable, version of Ted Cruz -- he wears his ambition so nakedly on his sleeve it's indecent!

Why doesn't Castro have the balls to seek statewide office in Texas? -- unless his political skills and "pull" with Hispanic voters are way overstated.
