Considering a second ear piercing....

I've had multiple ear piercings since I was a teenager in the 80s. Usually I just wear one set of earrings but sometimes I still wear more. No one seems to have died from shock quite yet.

It's funny - most of the people I see with multiple ear piercings like this anymore are women our age (40s, 50s). I enjoy being part of that crew.

Will anyone mistake you for an ingenue, with your multiple piercings? Unlikely. Will anyone fling you to the ground in horror? Also unlikely. Get what you like.

This post is so funny. I am 40, work in a conservative field, and have double piercings. (I had 3 in each ear in college, but I've let the third holes close.)

I typically wear diamond studs in the second holes and a small platinum hoops in the first. The idea that this looks trashy is pretty hilarious.

80s girl here 42 now. Have three in each ear. Now I am WASPy and conservative and wear diamond studs in the extra two on each side. Just leave them out for formal/fancy schmancy dress up occasions.

I just have 1 set of holes because I just don't like the feeling of earrings so I only wear them as an accessory for maybe the work day or dinner, etc and take them out after, never wear studs or jewelry pieces really.

BUT the only person I can think of that has 2 -3 holes is maybe the most wasy (read: kind of frumpy, sorry!) dresser ever, she's my good pal and a CPA, right/ conservative leaning and all of it. So these threads make me laugh. She wears small diamond studs in all of them, the 1st holes the studs are slightly bigger

Ditto to the bold. I have 7 ear piercings total, got them in jr. high. I wear studs or small hoops in the first holes, and nothing in the other ones. The holes are visible if you look closely but I haven't had earrings in them for 15 years or more. I guess I feel like I've outgrown wearing all the earrings, although I don't feel bad about having the piercings or regret them. If you like the look, go for it!

I don't even notice how many earrings someone else has, unless they are big flashy dangling ones. ie, if the earrings call attention to themselves, and I think that look can be "trashier" than multiple studs.

I got 2nd piercings around age 19. I'm currently 46 and wear diamond studs in the top and pearl studs in the bottom. I think it looks pretty conservative!

I honestly think that it is up to you.

If you think it looks trashy, dont get one.

If you like it, by all means get one.


Just mind your own buisness! How does it affect you in ANY way ahape or form if someone has an ear piercing?
On that note, decide who you want to be friends with based on the love in their heart, not the piercings in their ears.

If you will be piercing cartilage, get it done at a piercing parlor which will use a needle to pierce. Don’t use the gun-type apparatus that the mall stores use.

Exact same situation here (except I’ve only had 2) - I just wear studs or small hoops. I don’t think it looks trashy.

I think it’s fine. I’m Indian, so piercings are cultural and look normal. My grandma had a nose ring, and so does my younger cousin who’s a lawyer.

It's mostly 40-60 year old women who have second piercings from the 80s. Not a popular look right now.

I didn't really like my second ones and let them close up (I'm 50 now) it just got to be too much of a pain to "match" dual earrings for me as I got older.

this. i don't wear earrings much in my solo holes but the people I know who have them are all about 40 and up and wear diamond studs in all 4. My bff that does this is downright dowdy in her style and a right of center CPA!

There is nothing trashy about a second ear piercing. Plenty of us Gen Xers have them.
