Celebrity encounters, anyone surprise you? Disappoint you?

He and I were together for a little over an hour. He was so nice and funny and totally talked me and another extra up.

Granted, I was 15, but he was really awesome! His wife, Rosanne, was a total bitch and just shopped in the Polo store in Georgetown and yelled at everyone.

I posted this on another thread several months ago, but I met Robert Downey, Jr. when I was in 5th grade while he was filming the movie Chances Are in Rockville at the Courthouse. He came out of his trailer and talked to me, my sister and my sister's best friend. He was so nice to us and answered all of our questions (and asked his own). Afterwards, he gave my sister a Koosh ball (remember those?) and told her to take good care of it because it was the "greatest toy he ever had". This was in 88, I believe, maybe 87. Anyway, he was gorgeous then and so, so nice.

And completely high, during those years. Good you didn't notice that when you were kids though.

Give the guy a break. We all have our demons, and most of us can't claim (as he can) that our parents had us smoke a joint with them at age six! smh.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned Bill Clinton! Tall, warm, and wow, he made you feel like I was the most interesting person in the world for the few minutes we chatted about the non-profit I was representing. Everybody always says how charming he is and it's true.

My only celebrity encounters were James Patterson and Orson Scott Card. They were really nice, but both times it was at a book signing, so I think that would be expected.

I''m not not giving him a break. I'm just making a passing comment based on the dates. Calm down.

I totally forgot to mention him in my post. He shook my hand during an unplanned public appearance at Union Station when I was eleven. When people talk about charisma - Jesus, it was like everyone around me disappeared, the room fell silent, and he was just surrounded by this glow. I will never forget the feel of his hand, either. Surreal.

I once met a playwright I had idolized since I was 16. His writing had literally changed the course of my life, on several levels. When I met him him he was drunk, smelly and dirty and just horrible about everyone, very rude. I realized then its never a good idea to meet your heroes.

I thought he seemed sweaty and red-faced. And not that tall. Pp's must be short.

Me, too! I have never had that experience before or after I met him in 1992 in New Hampshire.

Ran into Stephen Colbert in a hardware store once in SC, and literally no one in the place recognized him (he had a salt and pepper beard all grown out, and was wearing a baseball cap and clothes like he'd been doing yard work) - we were walking towards each other down the same aisle and made eye contact, and I smiled like "I totally recognize you but will stay cool and leave you alone" and he flashed back that mischievous smile he used to always do on the Colbert Report. Obviously I was completely charmed.

Did we go to college together?

Another friend worked with Angelina Jolie on an African aid project, and said she was "the real deal." He works in international development for a living, and was really impressed with her.

Alan Rickman was a dick. Billy Joel and Ethan Hawke were both really nice and unassuming.

pre Harry potter I was at a dinner party with Alan Rickman, total dick- also I had no idea who he was.

My cousin modeled in LA in the 90s. She went on a date with Tobey Maguire, said he was a really nice guy (they only went out once). She also partied with Heath Ledger a few times, athough I don't think she thought he was a very nice guy, unfortunately.

My uncle coached Tim Burton in baseball/little league ...Tim had no interest in sports (parents made him to it) and it would come as no surprise that he was quiet and always drawing.

Isla Fisher flirted and made out with my DH at a Sydney nightclub about 15-20 years ago when she was doing soaps.
