Lesser of two evils: Prince George's or Prince William County?

| OP, just do your research. Assess your needs as far as commute, schools, real estate prices, taxes, crime, etc. and make the decision that works best for you and your family. Both PGC and PWC are regularly trashed on this board by people who know nothing about them. It's as if anyone who doesn't live in MoCo or Fairfax either lives in a trashy, crime-ridden ghetto with awful schools, or has a soul-killing commute. We've found our happy medium in Prince William County. Our commutes are tolerable, we were able to purchase a brand-new home in a diverse, upper-middle-class neighborhood for less than half of what it would have cost inside the Beltway, and our son goes to a very good elementary school within walking distance of our home. We've lived in this area for over 10 years and never had an issue with crime. We have some nice retail options available, including Wegmans, Potomac Mills, and various shops at Potomac Town Center. Restaurants are mostly chains but we do have some hidden gems as well. We are happy here. Contrary to popular belief, it is possible to have a very nice life outside the Beltway bubble. |

| I've actually lived in both. PWC commute is a bitch. PG County is a lot less friendlier and less nice parts. Other than a few parts of PG, if rather be in PWC. |

If I found out I was moving to Prince William County, I would poison my children and shoot my wife in the head while she slept. Then I would turn my gun on myself and shoot myself in the face.
While these events would not be great, it would be better than raising a family among the soul-destroying ugliness and cultural vacuum that is Prince William County. Better than we perish while memories of happier times are still fresh in our minds. That said, there is a nice camp ground in PW forest. |
