Here, I googled it for you: http://247wallst.com/special-report/2014/01/14/states-with-the-best-and-worst-schools-2/3/ |
If you take Montgomery and Howard County Schools out of the equation it will definitely a different story. The fact that both Howard and Montgomery County Public Schools carry the state of Maryland is interesting. Outside of those two counties the schools in Maryland are terrible. People in PG County aren't faking addresses to send their children to DC Charters for nothing. People in Baltimore City aren't paying for private schools or fleeing to northern Baltimore County schools for nothing. Hell, some folks in northern Baltimore County are fleeing to York, PA. Almost all of the schools in York County are now flooded with students from Maryland which has created problems up there. Now I really like Maryland and I used to reside there. However, let's not pretend that the schools in the entire state are on the level of Howard and Montgomery County Public Schools. The schools in Baltimore City aren't even fit my dog. |
Wow, it must be a might dog! ![]() |
If you don't go west of Ashburn/Leesburg, Virginia has normal people, too, you know. Although I am transplant from a deep blue state. |
You obviously didn't live in Arlington. |
I mean as an outsider in my opinion Maryland is cool.when I first started coming to the state in early 2000's I wasn't a fan of it or the people but it slowly got on my good side.better opportunities here then in ny(affordable housing depending on where you live..etc etc).I like the suburban areas most ( Columbia in howard county...silver spring in Montgomery county).but the people being from the state I can understand if they wanted to experience something different |
Maryland is California without sillicon valley or any job industry. |
Maryland sucks. So glad I left. |
Baltimore County also has a number of excellent schools but I don't get the sense you really know what you are talking about anyway. |
People go to York County, PA because they can't afford a house in Maryland and housing in super cheap in that part of Pennsylvania; same reason some people commute to DC from way out in West Virginia. That's an affordability issue. |
How long is that each way? |
Maryland's problems are due in large part to one party rule. |
I'm glad you left too! |
The only place I hear this claim is on DCUM. But the Gallup poll, if you're using that as evidence, doesn't support this point. Maryland is in the "worst" 10, but neither DC itself nor Virginia (the other suburb, remember?) are. Meanwhile, is everyone moving to Illinois just for jobs? New Jersey? Connecticut? How do you explain the less popular states? This "DC sucks but it's where the jobs are" is not actually supported by anything other than vague DCUM declarations.... |
