Catania's position is working...

What issue is more important in this city right now. If Bowser's agenda plays out no one will know which school to go to and, worse, children from our poorest wards who were given a shot by being given OOB admission to well-performing schools will get kicked to the failing curb. What we need are parents, black and white and brown, whom aren't afraid to stand up for what's right for our kids and tell people focused on race that looks can be deceiving. I'm giving Catania my vote and will be working hard to get him elected. I love my sisters as much as the next person, but I'm not about to sacrifice my child's education to go along to get along.

+ 100 percent!

Bowser is ahead in the polls right now, but it's April and much of the electorate didn't vote in the Dem primary and are only starting to focus now. And as they focus, the DME proposals are front and center. Catania needs grassroots organization, which is where Bowser does well, We parents all need to do our part to help him -- talk to family members, friends, neighbors. I read that Bowser's vote total on April 1 primary day represented something like 6 percent of the registered voters in DC. That's hardly a mandate, folks! As the voters' opinions crystalize over the coming months, Catania's support will steadily increase. Remember he can win -- and thereby so can we!

Catania needs other issues to run on though, in order to garner enough votes. More than education.

I hope he has a strong team! I bet he does because he seems smart.

I received an email from his team day after the primary asking me what are the key issues for me. Education, transit, zoning reform.

I'm all in for Catania, but that 6 percent is misleading. Gray's number was only 35% and he won in a landslide. That registered voter number is inflated by the young, transients who get driver's licenses but never intend to vote.

For the last two decades, there are roughly 100k votes to divvy up for mayor. Turnout in Gray/Fenty was huge because so many people east of the river hated Fenty with a capital H. I expect them to go back to their apathetic ways.

If Catania can quickly cut that 30 point lead down to something reasonable, I think he can get some traction. A big benefit for him is that Rs and Is have been desperate for someone to support for years and they could get energized. That's a solid 10k in votes. Bowser starts with a much bigger piece of the pie, but I'm not sure who is actually excited about her.

I can't be the only dcum-er who voted for republican carol Schwartz when she ran against Barry in 94 and got 42% of the vote? And this was back then.

DC demographics are much different in 20 years later, and while obviously bowser isn't Barry, or even close, I do think 1994 showed that diehard DC democrats will vote for a "republican" in a heartbeat in a local election if conditions warrant.

30K people in DC voted for Romney.

He tried to save DC General and the outcome is what? So, the comparison of him trying to save DC General motivates Moms and Dads. That logic would say that trying to improve DCPS will motivate Nurses and Doctors. Usher, please show this person the door.

Wow. If this is the best Muriel supporters can offer, she has little hope of winning.

Can't blame them for floating ideas here, there.

Question for Muriel supporters, what exactly has she done that demonstrates an understanding of the problems of this city and the skills necessary to address them at an executive level?

Not limiting this to education, I want a demonstration of competency. I have been to PTA meetings where David Catania attended and engaged with the families (this was last year, not a mayoral race event), I have a feel for his intelligence, skills and follow through. Please give me that for Muriel rather than an attack on DC.

Not a Muriel supporter but will not fathom idea that Catania is the GWH either and saving DC General should catapult him in serving as Mayor. If you're the champion of his cause then bless your heart and remember we are not San Francisco. Again, the true native DC resident doesn't budge for those who you tell us to vote for, we budge for those who you tell us no to vote for. Flashback, told the citizens not to vote for Barry and what happened. Told the city not to vote for Muriel or for another woman mayor candidate for that matter and what happens. Told us to vote for Schwartz and what happened? Here again telling us to vote for Catania, is sealing his fate as a loser already. Secret weapon; when one or more gather in the presence of his name; we pray and vote together.

So, how is DC General doing these days?

This, folks, is Catania in a nutshell. The patient is dead, but the doctor looked damn good trying to save him!

This man fought the good fight. I was in the courtroom with he and Kevin Chavous. He has integrity. The corporation that dismantled DC General has big pocketbooks and their fraudulent behavior was later discovered when they destroyed the former Greater Southeast Hospital. Whether all of his ideas produce a favorable result or not, Catania will look you in the eye, treat you as an equal and if he thinks an issue is right, fight with all of his might for it.

He will treat you as an equal if you are on the same side of the issue as he. If you are not, he will belittle you, bully you, shout over your testimony at council hearings and disparage your competence and character. Sometimes an attack-dog is just what is needed to turn around a bad situation. Maybe Catania can make some real progress toward fixing the mess that is DCPS. But anyone with his kind of volatile temper and lack of any sense of fair play is not fit to be mayor. At some point he will be on the wrong side of an issue, and his brutal style will be the cause of the mess. Just wait.

I'm not a huge Bowser fan, but I just can't vote for Catania. Too scary.
