He will treat you as an equal if you are on the same side of the issue as he. If you are not, he will belittle you, bully you, shout over your testimony at council hearings and disparage your competence and character. Sometimes an attack-dog is just what is needed to turn around a bad situation. Maybe Catania can make some real progress toward fixing the mess that is DCPS. But anyone with his kind of volatile temper and lack of any sense of fair play is not fit to be mayor. At some point he will be on the wrong side of an issue, and his brutal style will be the cause of the mess. Just wait.
I'm not a huge Bowser fan, but I just can't vote for Catania. Too scary. scarier than controlled choice? "Alice Deal for all?" I am much more scared by lack of substance, which disable dialogue. I was (by chance) at a fundraiser for Browser. She was, I have to say, extremely nice and cool, and fun too. But when faced with precise and stringent questions from participants, she just responded with slogans, which were so vague (thought they sounded great) that made them difficult to challenge or counter-debate. This is what makes me scared. I had the same experience on Tuesday night, when I tried to entertain dialogue with one of the 21 Century Fund "experts". She only responded through propoganda statements. "Diversity has proven to provide benefits to all kids regardless of their race and academic proficiency" , "we want not only brighter students, but better citizens". When I told her that neither her or the DM had no mandate to forge better citizens, she got back to the mantra "diversity will enhance the outcome of the kids lagging behind, without harming the others" . That's scary to me. Not a strong and tempered confrontation. |
| Will homophobic ministers rise up against a Catania candidacy? |
| You have kids in DCPS, you want someone for whom education is at the top of the list of priorities and someone who knows something about education. Catania, Catania, and yes again, Catania. |
Well, then sign his petition , please, and circulate it among your community. As of this morning, the signatures were still only 293. First, we want to show support. Second, we want to show how large our parent constituency is, to shape even more his position on these issues. |
