Strange contacts in phone of teenager

Anonymous
Is there a "Mary Jane" or "Crystal M" in his contacts? So your son is smoking pot and not that bright if he put a contact in his phone that screams drug dealer. (but, I think this is a fake post)

100% agree with all of these statements! OP, what did you end up doing?

WHen I got DD a cell phone I talked with her and let her know that I can access her cell phone at anytime. Perhaps this is something the OP should have done from the beginning.

What about Molly? I heard she's trouble

Um... seriously... why wouldn't you want to talk to your kid about his potential drug use? I don't care how liberal you are, he's been acting slow and lethargic, not like himself, and has Jamaican Jerry in his phone. It's time for some talking!

I'd kill my son (not literally, but I'd be livid) if I found out he were using drugs. I'm extremely liberal politically, but I've had family members die from drug abuse, so I have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to drugs and alcohol, and my kids know it.

I see nothing wrong with going through your kid's phone. I've told my kids from middle school (maybe earlier) that nothing in their lives is secret from me. I can go through their pockets, their drawers, their bedroom, their computer, their phone. I learned this from a US Attorney who has seen too much lax parenting, and the horrible consequences it wreaks on children, even of very well-meaning parents.

Deal with this directly, OP. But find a counselor who can help you, since every situation is different. The drug and alcohol counselor who came to our school told us that the #1 reason kids give for not doing drugs is that they know their parents would kill them if they found out.

We don't drink, smoke or do drugs, so we're modeling the behavior we want to see in our children. If your family has alcohol abuse issues, then that's another story. But get thee to a counselor pronto. Letting it go is approval, OP. GL.

This was my biggest concern about dd -- getting busted and getting a record. Serious matter, regardless of whether one endorses a few puffs here or there.

Not serious if they are juveniles. Might even be a good wake-up moment.

Could be true. High school kids are stupid. They post all over facebook, twitter, Instagram, and ask.fm for God and country to see about their drug use. I can see one thinking the contact name was cool.

OP, my child is a HS senior and caught said child with pot at the end of sophomore year.

Talk to your son.

Exactly. There's nothing halarious about drugs/alchohol.
