I see nothing wrong with going through your kid's phone. I've told my kids from middle school (maybe earlier) that nothing in their lives is secret from me. I can go through their pockets, their drawers, their bedroom, their computer, their phone. I learned this from a US Attorney who has seen too much lax parenting, and the horrible consequences it wreaks on children, even of very well-meaning parents.

Deal with this directly, OP. But find a counselor who can help you, since every situation is different. The drug and alcohol counselor who came to our school told us that the #1 reason kids give for not doing drugs is that they know their parents would kill them if they found out.

We don't drink, smoke or do drugs, so we're modeling the behavior we want to see in our children. If your family has alcohol abuse issues, then that's another story. But get thee to a counselor pronto. Letting it go is approval, OP. GL. [/quote]
