Weaning = instant flat stomach?

Did you really need to post a thread to confirm that? Just look at the 500 threads about difficulty losing the baby weight. Or maybe just use some common sense.

Respectfully, the 500 threads about difficulty losing baby weight aren't really useful to me. I was wondering if anyone else had the experience of suddenly losing a noticeable amount of body fat within days of weaning. My home scale put my body fat at 10% this morning and usually it is around 15%.

Did you get it back?
No. Not until BFing DC2.

This is me, too, losing the last of the weight when I weaned, and not regaining it until I had my second. I almost feel like I gained more fat when I started breastfeeding my second than I had during the pregnancy.

Scary, PP.

I gained weight when I weaned because my metabolism and eating habits were still in the breast feeding stage. So I was suddenly consuming a ton of calories, was hungry all the time, and not expending the calories. It took a few months to get it back to normal.

I agree.

A friend said to me that you never feel not pregnant until you stop BF'ing and I think that's true to a degree. I feel huge still (3 mos pp and mostly BF'ing/pumping). My boobs are huge, back fat still there, stomach fat, etc. I did more formula with my first and didn't feel this way. Hoping weaning will help.

I lost weight after weaning too, but I was never, nor am I now skinny. So for me it was more "Oh, I'm not as fat, yippee!"

Ugh, OP, stop bragging.

About the gaining fat while bfing? Yeah, it's annoying. I'm in otherwise good shape but feel like someone taped a layer of padding to my hips and thighs. Oh well--I'm not even four months out, but cautiously optimistic that I'll have the same fat loss post-weaning this time around, too. I'm naturally pretty lean (though nowhere near 10-15% bodyfat), so I think I just need a little extra cushion to make milk.

Anonymous wrote:I have been slightly underweight since having my second child. With both kids I lost a lot of weight breastfeeding, and with the first went about 5 pounds below my pre-baby weight. I gained it back and got back to normal, healthy weight after weaning. With my second, my BMI is hovering at just below healthy weight and I weaned over a year ago. Have had thyroid checked etc., all is normal. Dr. said babies just may have changed my metabolism.

FWIW my mom was always super tiny and then her metabolism slowed at 40 so I expect the same. She is still not overweight but has to watch what she eats much more carefully now and is always trying to lose 5 pounds.

OP here. My mom was always really tiny and ended up getting thinner with each child. I didn't even think to ask her if this happened when she weaned. I suspect pregnancy may have changed my body composition. I have always been thin, but pre-pregnancy my body fat was usually in the 17-20% range so this is a big change. Even my face looks different.

That doesn't sound healthy. I'd talk to your doctor about that and given your preoccupation with your body fat, monitored by both your home scale and self-pinching, you may want to ask for a pysch referral as well.

YES! Although I'm not sure they can cure stupid -- or self-involved.
