Another poster in agreement that OP is being completely ridiculous. What district are you in OP? In MoCo, we get a schedule so we know what days of the week our Kindergartener has Art. For my DD, it's every Monday. We are told that our kid might get messy. Because really, do you expect a 5 year old to paint and not get any on her?? Even I can't paint without getting paint somewhere on me. So, as a parent, it is MY job to make sure my kid is wearing clothes on Mondays that can get messy. It is not the teacher's job (the teacher who is watching 19 other five year olds at the SAME TIME!!) to ensure my kid rolls up her sleeves. OP, you are being completely ridiculous complaining about this. |
former pre-school teacher here- I am sorry that the dress got ruined, I hope for you daughters sake she doesn't know how upset you are about this.
I worked at a very nice private school and was always saddened by little girls dressed in Burberry outfits whose parents couldn't understand that they were sending their kids to pre-school. We have art and activities everyday, we encourage kids to get messy and experience things, we do the best we can to keep their clothes from getting ruined but we are not the ones who set them up for failure by dressing them inappropriately for pre-school. Also so you know sleeves roll down- I have been the one to go around and push sleeves back up but it is a problem when their hands are already messy. OP do not blame the art teacher- if you were worried about the dress you should have never sent her to school in it- she is 5 for crying out loud! As a teacher keeping your little snowflakes designer outfit from getting messy ranks way below the other things we need to worry about on a daily basis- not saying I don't care but I have found I spent a lot more time comforting a child who is worried mom is going to be mad then I do actually worry about the damn outfit. |

Art and reach oil teacher here. I also agree! |
Try these:
http://www.wikihow.com/Get-Acrylic-Paint-Out-of-Clothes I would suggest soaking the stain overnight in rubbing alcohol. THat usually works for me. |
Understood, but don't assume that we care. I send my kid in whatever cute designer things grandmama buys with the total understanding that they may get ruined. But why not wear and enjoy! ![]() |
I know, right?! Why do they even let them try to write? It's all jibble jabble. And they are way too loud at recess. Lock them all up in the closet until they are old enough. |
Another preschool teacher here. I tell parents over and over to never send their kids in anything they mind getting dirty or ruined.
My students WILL get dirty. I teach the 3's and sometimes I think I spend half my day washing hands. Paint might say "washable" on the label but some colors just don't come out. Same goes for markers, playdough, slime, mud, grass and even some snacks. Some kids will never wear a smock (kids with sensory issues, hate them) and I will not physically force them too. The rule is you have to use one but we also teach independence. In my class the easel is always open and kids have free access to it. Every day, I need to remind at least one kid to go get a smock, sometimes I get to it too late. I will also never tell a child "Suzie, you can't work on your craft today because your outfit looks expensive, so sit this one out...". My assistant and I try our best, but your child is not the only kid in the class. We roll up sleeves, but sometimes they roll back down. The only day we go out of my way to protect clothing is picture day or whenever we have a little show and parents come and the kids look extra nice. On those days no art and no experiments or sensory play. And just a thought, imagine the outrage if I started a thread saying "one of my preschool students ruined my expensive outfit by using paint today!!" Flames would be a mile high :0 I am very sorry about the dress. |
My friend's child refused to fingerpaint because she didn't like to get dirty. Guess where that came from? |
Loud and MESSY. So messy. The kids play in the dirt and come home with grass stains on their pants. WHYYYYY is the teacher letting my kid play in the grass? DS wrecks all his pants that way. |
Nobody's perfect. Go on with your life. |
children at school shouldn't be that precious. |
I know - I think they shouldn't let them outside at all!! That's ridiculous that they get dirty. And sometimes my son comes home with jelly on his shirt from his PB&J. JELLY!!! How could the teachers do that?!?!! And I've heard that sometimes the teachers even let them talk in the classroom - those little voices are so squeaky and annoying. WTF is going on in our schools?!?! |
![]() ![]() OP, you sent a 5 year old to school in an outfit you didn't want ruined. What were you thinking? |
THAT is unacceptable. The lunch aides should be required to provide bibs and clean up any jelly spills immediately. My other concern is ketchup. Why does the cafeteria serve ketchup? It stained my kid's brand new Janie and Jack dress. It should be banned. |
