I worked at a very nice private school and was always saddened by little girls dressed in Burberry outfits whose parents couldn't understand that they were sending their kids to pre-school. We have art and activities everyday, we encourage kids to get messy and experience things, we do the best we can to keep their clothes from getting ruined but we are not the ones who set them up for failure by dressing them inappropriately for pre-school.

Also so you know sleeves roll down- I have been the one to go around and push sleeves back up but it is a problem when their hands are already messy.

OP do not blame the art teacher- if you were worried about the dress you should have never sent her to school in it- she is 5 for crying out loud!  As a teacher keeping your little snowflakes designer outfit from getting messy ranks way below the other things we need to worry about on a daily basis- not saying I don't care but I have found I spent a lot more time comforting a child who is worried mom is going to be mad then I do actually worry about the damn outfit.
