No climbing in the pool or sharing towels. My understanding from the literature that I've read is that you can get it from the pool. I called the pool that my son was in and they took it seriously and "shocked" the pool. |
I am no expert on this condition and my own son did not get the infection from the pool, nor did he go into the pool when he was infected. But it is my understanding that your skin would need to come into contact with the oils from an infected person's boil (pimple). I'm not seeing how that would be possible from simply swimming in a chlorinated pool, no contact. Sharing towels, that sort of thing is how it's spread. You do not get it simply from breathing in the same air, it isn't like a cold... |
| My son had five or six on his back this spring. We used apple cider vinegar and band aids, and they were all gone in about six weeks. |
| OP here..I got a call from the dermatologist today. The nurse said it is okay to pop boils if they are hurting but to apply hydrogen peroxide afterwards to prevent infection. She also said if they aren't hurting to leave them alone as it could cause spreading and that showers were better than baths. Thanks so much for the advice, I'll keep you posted. |

This is a hard place to be. If as a last ditch attempt you want to try something that is very safe then try the following remedy.
Try Thuja Occidentalis homeopathic tablets (30 C) 5 pellets under tongue, every 4 hours when awake for 2 days. Every 6 hours for next 2 days and then once a day... Try for a week or two and see if it makes a difference. Any change (good or bad) - should be seen as the medicine working. http://www.boironusa.com/products/thuja-occidentalis/ |

There is plenty of good research around about molluscum. Research undertaken by Johns Hopkins University Baltimore showed that half of children who have molluscum have it one year minimum. Many have it for up to two years. Also once one child has it other members of the family are very likely to catch the molluscum virus.
All our three children got molluscum and we tried all sorts of ways of treating them (I hesitate to say "every way"). The most important I think to combat molluscum in order are: - most importantly, getting on top of it quickly. We left our first children who caught molluscum for too long (on advice of doctors). Our other two we got on top of very quickly and limited the spread - plus once caught, good hygiene is vital. Things that worked for us: apple cider vinegar Mollenol - on OTC clove oil - very harsh OTCs that didnt work: Conzerol - seemed to stunt growth Zymaderm - not much impact Derm Allay - worst of all. I hope this helps others. It is a long process but stick with it. Good luck. |

My dermatologist recommends that people eat kiwi fruit to cure them and keep them from coming back.
A kiwi a day. |
| My ped prescribed Tagamet and it cleared up my daughters long standing molluscum. I'm suprised I don't see it mentioned more often. |
| Zymaderm was the only thing that worked for ds. Everything the derm and pedi tried did not work. |
After 10 months and just about every home remedy imagine able, we are also using Tagamet in liquid form. It is helping tremendously. |
| We tried everything the derm threw at us for our daughter. Nothing worked for 14 months. The pediatrician recommended retin a. It worked like a charm. |
We did this too, and three years later, the bump was still there and started to spread. I put tea tree oil on them nightly and they were gone in a few weeks. One got very, very irritated, though. |
| We used apple cider vinegar and bandaids, and they all went away within a month. (To be fair, he only had a few of them on his stomach.) |

This thread is 2 years old. I'm not sure why it was revived the way it was.
All three of my kids at molluscum. I was told that I could see a dermatologist if I wanted but treatment is painful and may not shorten the duration of the infection. I opted to let it run its course. My first child had it for exactly 8 months, and then suddenly every bump (and there were a LOT of them all over his body) flared up, scabbed, and went away. Just as his last bumps were healing, a couple showed up on kid #2. 8 months later, his bumps also simultaneously flared and then healed. That's when I noticed some on kid #3. I counted out 8 months but that deadline came and went. His bumps finally flared up after 11 months and then healed away. The immune system will find it eventually and take care of business. It's just unpleasant in the meantime. |
| My DD has a too we were told that it would go away on its own and has. No one else in the family got it with no special precautions. I wonder if some of the finally something worked posts were just the virus going away on its own. |
