Is Soy Vey a TJs brand or is it available elsewhere? Can the Soy Vey also be used as a sauce (to combine a protein, veggie and pasta/rice) or is it best as just a marinade? |

^ and they can use soda if they aren't 21 yet.

I get it at Safeway, sadly our closest TJ's is 6 hours away. I usually marinate 10 thighs in about 1/2 the bottle and will use some as a sauce for leftovers or when mixing the chicken with rice and veggies. We like the island teriyaki with pineapple juice in it. My friends also do this in a crock pot. |
This sounds perfect. And it seems like they have to try the chicken on a beer can if just for the laughs. |
| Time to cut the apron strings, Mommies! You are not doing your son any favors by not treating him like an adult. Let him figure it out for himself; I promise he won't starve. |
Another helpful post. Thanks for your contribution! |
You never got recipes from your parents? You don't plan to share recipes with your kids? How sad. |
OP is not looking for recipes to share, s/he is asking for recipes to cook for the son so he can take them to school. I share my recipes with my kids daily as they help me prepare dinner. They are 21 months and 4 1/2 years old and I expect when they leave for college, they will be fully capable of cooking for themselves. |
+1 my whole family shares recipes. I've even gotten some recipes from my much younger cousins, just out of college. |
I wouldn't do the George Foreman. Every guy I knew in college had one and failed to clean it after using it. After eating, it would just sit there in their counters and the fat would congeal. Blech! Maybe the guys I knew (all 2 dozen or so) were just slobs? Definitely go with the removable plates or a plain old grill pan (which will take up a lot less storage space) if he has a stove his dorm/apt. |
No no no. These are recipe ideas to share with college kids in their first apartment. |
| I would get him a crock pot with some recipes for roast with potatoes, beef stew, hearty veggie soup, chili etc. all healthy, high in protein and basically one step dishes. |
| Beer can chicken is really good and easy. You can buy little stands as well to prop up the chicken and make it a little easier to get the hot chicken off the can. Steven Raichlen has a whole book on it with different rubs, etc. you can also cook it that way in the oven. |
