Christmas Songs - My ears are bleeding

Anonymous
To paraphrase Martin Short on SNL last week: "This a special time of year when we all come together no matter if you are Jewish or Muslim or Hindu; we welcome all faiths to worship our savior Jesus Christ *gesturing widely*...and sing our holy songs and eat our Christian foods and so on."

Christmas Eve in Washington is not just the worst Christmas song, it is the worst song of all time.

I've never heard Christmas Shoes - and I listen to tons of Christmas music. Sounds like I"m lucky!

I hate "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" and the "don't they know it's Christmas" song. Jingle Bell Rock drives me nuts too - that intro - ugh!

Listen to "They Call This Christmas Where I'm From" by the Dropkick Murphy's. My new favorite Christmas song!!!

(i'd post a link, but I'm at work and my draconian internet blockers won't let me!)

97.1 plays it all day long this time of year

So turn the radio down or off when these two painful-to-you songs come on? Is that so hard? Or is your radio encased in a locked plexiglass case to keep you from adjusting the dials?

OMG. Of course you can change the channel (and we are talking about music in stores, btw) but it is just a fun topic PP.

Get the candy cane out of your keister.

Hey, I'm not the Scrooge who vents about her ears bleeding because of a Christmas song. I actually love Christmas music and listen to 97.1 pretty much anytime I'm in the car during the month of December (the only place I really listen to the radio). I only flip channels to catch the traffic report and then back to all Christmas, all the time.

Anonymous wrote:I LOVE Christmas songs....but I agree. Those two you mentioned are terrible! Actually any of the current ones are terrible renditions.

I only listen to my XM Christmas station (4) that is based on older Christmas songs from the 40's and 50's. The classics are the best.

Me too!

How can you NOT love Madonna's "Santa Baby"? Or Bon Jovi's Christmas songs? And my absolute, all time favorite Christmas song by the Boss "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" (although Merry Christmas, Baby is a VERY close second)?

Hell, I even still own the NKOTB Christmas album...ON TAPE!

Um, or Baby Please Come Home by U2. . . loooooooves me some Bono! He and Simon LeBon are the main reason to listen to Do They Know It's Christmas, doncha know?

Really? The hippo song and Jingle Bell Rock are two of my favorites. Make me so happy! Brian Setzer's Christmas albums are also fun as all get out.

I bought the original Very Special Christmas album a couple years ago on Amazon. These songs are pretty much all on there.

I'm not a HUGE U2 fan, but that is a good song. I also like the 2000 Miles song by The Pretenders.

Why is it that no one plays The Waitresses song anymore? I swear, I tune to 97.1 over and over and over and they NEVER play it. Yet they play tons of other songs repeatedly.

Ah, yes. . .Chrissie Hynde. You really have to love her. Why the heck don't I have that album?

Not exactly a Christmas song but --- what about "Another Auld Lang Syne" by Dan Fogelberg?"

Depressing dirge or a classic?

the 2000 Miles song is NOT on there. I had to buy it separately. But it had quite a few of the good ones.

I just got one recently in a 1.99 christmas album sale called The Essential Now That's What I Call Christmas that has a bunch of other good ones. Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer, another classic And the John Lennon song is on there.

Yeah, but does it have the dogs barking Jingle Bells? I mean really, THAT'S not an annoying song, right?

I like the Vince Guaraldi Trio Charlie Brown Christmas tunes. Jazzy and melancholy.
