Christmas Songs - My ears are bleeding

Anonymous
If I hear "Last Christmas" by George Michael one more time, I am going to stab my ears with a sharp object until they bleed.

In addition, "Simply Having a Wonderful Christmastime" by Paul McCartney has to be the WORST song ever. I know there are better Christmas songs out there, why are we subjected to these two songs over and over again??????

I LOVE Christmas songs....but I agree. Those two you mentioned are terrible! Actually any of the current ones are terrible renditions.

I only listen to my XM Christmas station (4) that is based on older Christmas songs from the 40's and 50's. The classics are the best.

Funny - I love Christmas music but have not really heard any - do they play it at your work - where are you being forced to hear music?

About the only "modern" Christmas song I like is Mariah Carey's "All I want for Christmas is you". I don't know why but I love that song so much. I can't stand anything else she sings though.

This made me laugh--I am a Christmas music junkie, and "Last Christmas" is one of the few modern Christmas songs I really like, but all I've been hearing is the crappy Taylor Swift cover, which is an abomination. And when Mariah Carey's song, I flip away. To each his or her own, I guess.

I thought this exact same thing yesterday while I heard it again in the car. It is an assault to mine ears.

I hear the xmas songs when I am out shopping. I feel like every store has to play that song (Last Christmas) every 30 minutes. Also on 97.1. Love their Christmas music!

Also, the Africa song about "do they know it's Christmas time at all?" is horribly depressing. I really listened to the lyrics for the first time about a year ago and felt horrible afterwards.

Isn't Christmas supposed to be a happy time? What gives with all the doom and gloom in the songs?!?!?

I am just THRILLED to death that 97.1 has broadened its Christmas repertoire this year. I have not heard "Christmas Eve in Washington" or the "Christmas Shoes" song ONCE yet (although I'm sure they've been played). Last year I had to stop listening to 97.1 altogether because EVERY TIME I turned it on, one of those two songs was on, and I got tired of vomiting all over my dashboard.

Those are the worst. Christmas. songs. ever.

Christians believe that Christmas is a mixture of happy and sad, as Jesus' birth foreshadows his death and resurrection. So actually, Christmas songs can be either joyous or sad. But yeah, I do agree the Band Aid "Do they know it's Christmas?" song is kinda depressing.

I've been a Christian my whole life and have never felt sad or heard anyone else say they felt sad about Jesus birth (and foreshadowing death). I've only heard of it as being joyous.
