I'm not the OP but am a Federal Gov. employee. I plan to take Dec 24 off but it would be nice if the government was closed. That way I can take another day off.....

I'm a fed and I find these type of posts massively irritating. I get why non-Feds would too. Between my accrued leave and our regular holidays I get over 30 days of leave a year. That's a lot by any standard. So when I see these posts, it makes me cringe. OP should do what a lot of us do: use leave and take the day off. Just makes us look like spoiled entitled brats and confirms the worst assumptions people have about Feds, especially given that some people are grateful to have jobs.

Fed here and I agree with this. Most of us should be grateful that we have a great job, plus get Christmas off, paid. Please don't be ungrateful this year people. Many are without jobs.

I am a Fed and will be working the 24th in my office. As there will be so few people in the office, the owners of the building will not turn on the heat for that one day (the cost to heat the building on the 24th when the building was closed on the 22, 23, and then 25th is too high). Must remember to dress warmly.

This Fed gives a perfect example of why there is Fed bashing. Always gaming the system to get more and do less.

Op here. I make at least 40 k less than I would in private sector. My wages have been frozen. A day off would be a nice thank you or acknowledgement. And it could only boost the retail numbers.

You must work in my building, we aren't going to have heat either. But why bother caring if Feds are warm. Now, if only I can get over the flu.

I don't get this at all. My DH is Fed...FBI. He is never able to use all his leave. He loses some every year. He always has plenty of leave available. He'll be off Christmas Eve plus a week before and after because he doesn't burn through all his leave during th rest of the year.
