Dear Mr. President

Anonymous
Fwiw, I work at a nonprofit org, and there is some accounting reason (that I don't understand) whereby it's incredibly expensive to announce a closure for 12/24. Evidently things can (and surely will) be done informally but we've been warned there will be no early leave announcement for that reason. I'm reasonably certain that we will have to be open, however, and that no one will be given the whole day off. Kind of a bummer but like the feds we have a good accrued leave policy, and it's not hard to burn a day if you need/want to.

If you close us on the 24th it will give us more shopping time making the economy look better. It would allow for trips otherwise not planned. Finally, there would be no political repercussions for you.

You won't go shopping. You haven't had a raise in two years and it looks like you're getting squat next year.

We're still going to be fighting over the fiscal cliff after Christmas. No one gets the 24th off. Duh.

The hill has been off. Duh!

They will rescind that. Double duh.

I thought it was more expensive to stay open that day given the minimal output.

Some of the fed and state courts have already announced they are closed.

I'm not a fed, but my office is closed.

Why every time a major holiday approaches, some fed gets on DCUM asking if they can get "extra" time off in addition to what's already on the books?! It's infuriating and confirms the stereotype that you all are a bunch of lazy bastards. You have one of the most generous leave packages anywhere, in any sector or industry, plus you get federal holidays (which not everyone in the private sector does). Moreover, don't moan and groan about raises when many in the private sector are struggling just to keep their jobs, forget getting a raise!

You want the 24th off? THEN USE YOUR F-ING LEAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There will be no political repercussions? When the President is still fighting with Congress over the fiscal cliff and government spending, giving federal employees an extra paid day off will have no political repercussions?

I know all federal employees aren't so dimwitted - but it sure appears that it's the slow ones who are most vocal on DCUM.

What's wrong with wishing we had a off?
