Dear Mr. President

Please close the government via Holiday December 24. We have not had raises in 2 years and it looks like we will get squat next year.
If you close us on the 24th it will give us more shopping time making the economy look better. It would allow for trips otherwise not planned. Finally, there would be no political repercussions for you.

Pertinent part"There is no guarantee that presidents will grant federal workers extra time off around Christmas. In many instances in the past the White House has granted workers some time off on Christmas Eve, and more often than not workers have been given an extra day when Christmas was on a Tuesday (meaning they got Monday off) or Thursday, when they sometimes got a bonus day off on Friday."

You won't go shopping. You haven't had a raise in two years and it looks like you're getting squat next year.

We're still going to be fighting over the fiscal cliff after Christmas. No one gets the 24th off. Duh.

Aren't some of the court houses closed, too?

PP here. no, i am not a new fed but i think giving us that extra day off is not necessary. why should we get it when other parts of this country were showing up to work for black friday on thanksgiving? they did not even get the actual
holiday off. get some perspective and take leave if you want that day off.

Not sure what your point is-- feds don't get the Friday after thanksgiving as a holiday, and I don't know of anyone who doesn't have thanksgiving day off (aside from emergency workers-- I would never shop at those places that tried to start black friday on thanksgiving day).

That said, I don't see any way he gives a day off while the fiscal cliff is unresolved.

I agree it would be nice, but honestly if you weren't already taking a paid holiday for travel, then it wasn't that important to you.

So what was the deal? Treat the feds better for their votes? Or screw the feds for the non-fed votes?
