Private & Independent Schools
The short answer is: you can't fire someone for standing up against racial discrimination. However, whether or not there was any racial discrimination (under the law, not every "stray remark" constitutes actionable discrimination), or whether the plaintiff "stood up" over alleged discrimination, or whether or not he was terminated for any stand he took, all remain to be litigated. The fact that the school let them go ahead and file the complaint as opposed to settling pre-complaint (a demand is virtually always made in these kind of cases) suggests that the school feels very confident about mounting a good defense. Time will tell. |
| Here we go again. How many Landon scandals must we watch before the administration finally makes some changes in the way they teach their students? If it isn't cheating on the SAT exams it's the hard partying of the lacrosse team to murder when one of their alumni George Huguely broke down a door and murdered Yeardley Love. Now the headmaster is accused of ignoring discrimination for 18 years against its Hispanic employees. Does this surprise anyone? |
This is getting very interesting. I noticed that the message above was posted from Texas. It seems strange that someone in Texas would be interested in a DC-oriented website or a discussion of Landon School. I traced the poster of that message to this page: http://fiverr.com/pinkcherrypie In which someone named "pinkcherrypie" is offering to post comments on a website for $5. The advertisement says the following: "Need some comments on your website, YouTube, or blog? I can post multiple comments from multiple users where ever you want, however you want! You can even tell me exactly what you want said. If you have any special requests let me know! I happily take them." Subsequent to the message quoted above, another message was posted:
This message was posted from Chicago. So, it appears to someone is into pinkcherrypie for at least $10 so far. Someone is attempting to use DCUM as part of their public relations strategy. I can say that I am having a great time making that effort blow up in their face. Keep it coming, but try to make your next effort a bit more challenging to uncover. |
| This is just plain wrong! How could you fire someone for standing up AGAINST discrimination!? Obviously, it is wrong to discriminate against someone for being Hispanic or anything else for that matter. The abuse of these workers is going to just continue if he doesn't win the lawsuit. It's 2012 for goodness sake! Are we ever going to conquer racial discrimination in this country? |
Hah, pinkcherrypie must have forgotten that she already posted this. Whoever hired her should be sure to get the $5 back. |
| When did Landon put Jeff on retainer?? |
He is trying to assure a fair discussion from real parents not impostors or posters who pretend to be different people to inflame the conversation. I also thank him for doing this. |
| Yes, keep busting the sock puppets Mr. Steele. Thank you! |
| Jeff has become such troll. So many of threads are out of control and he does nothing to change that nature of DCUM, but in this case he felt the need to protect Landon. It's not because he's commited to fair play and objectivity because he is selective in his enforcement of such rules. He must be afraid of Landon or on their payroll. |
There is really no way to interpret your two posts other than supporting paying for people to sock puppet. This is the first time I have caught a sock puppet-for-hire. So, my enforcement against that activity is 100% consistent. If you prefer websites that welcome hired sock puppets, I am afraid that you will have to look elsewhere. |
| What makes you think this poster was hired?? |
See the post at 15:30. |
You've got to be kidding... Jeff is totally in the right on this one. You're just upset he happened to "out" the paid poster on a Landon thread. Had this thread been about one of the fashionable schools you would be applauding his good work. |
|
Another thank you to Jeff. He can't possibly police all the boards on here, I appreciate the attention to catching sock puppets. Who knew you could pay people to do that (although, I guess we shouldn't be surprised)!
BTW, I have no dog in this fight - I could care less about the lawsuit (unless the charges are true, in which case I think something needs to be done to support the workers). |

Jeff it's silly to go through all this detective work to track down a poster who simply wants to remain anonymous. Besides there is no difference between a single poster who makes 50 posts and 50 individual posters from the same institution who work in conjunction with one another to accomplish the same purpose.
Come on Jeff lighten up and besides you're taking too much personal satisfaction from being a detective. |
