Landon School Scandal

I'm sorry, but that is just not true. We are squarely middle class (by MoCo standards) and couldn't be happier at Landon. We are not conservative, we are not rich, we are not a family driven by athletics. Both of our boys are thriving...our eldest is very artistic, into performing arts, and is just as nurtured, celebrated and supported as any other child in his class. The parent community is diverse (economically, culturally, etc.) Both of our sons have friends that live all over the county, in DC, etc. It is not homogenous by any stretch of the word, and that is what makes it special. We have found the teachers to be engaged, creative and really connected to the kids. We're very happy with our choice.

To the previous poster who self-identified as a current Landon teacher: thank you for taking the time to post and to share facts. It is tiring to hear people toss accusations with little regard for honest dialogue. Your posting reinforced to me why we know we made the right decision to send our son to Landon.

Didn't a whole bunch of AA families transfer to Bullis this year?

I'm no Landon lover but that lawsuit read as a huge reach from the start.

Yeah, but does anyone on here know what is happening with it?

well something is up if so many families left.

2 of the AA students who left Landon for Bullis were caught cheating and were asked to leave.

Nothing is "up" at Landon. My children did not attend Landon. I wish I had sent my DS to Landon instead of ___.

Yes I am a real person.

Others left because of academic reasons (couldn't handle the work) or because they weren't happy with their kids participation on Varsity teams (or the lack thereof)

If they find what they are looking for or need from Bullis, congrats. People switch schools for all sorts of reasons. And they may not be honest about it.

Pp. you are playing with fire. I suggest you stand down. It's not productive to say a bunch of families left because they weren't smart enough, weren't athletic enough and that they are being dishonest. You are not helping Landon

I never said anyone wasn't athletic enough. Some parents have high expectations for their kids playing on certain teams and playing time. Others are trying to achieve recruitment to college for sports like hockey where going to a boarding school can really help.If they aren't getting what they want, they look for other opportunities for their kids. Many have found success at other schools (besides Bullis) so it can a good move for them.

Families at many schools evaluate all the time if the school is meeting the needs of their kids. Sometimes a particular type of teaching style just doesn't work for some kids. It doesn't mean they aren't smart.

In HS, the work load does increase tremendously. If you know your kid can't handle that, then people look for a place their kid can be successful.

It is not fire, just a parent being smart about having the best experience for their child. Sometimes parents just don't want to say the real reason they are leaving.

So people assume the worst. As many of the "bash Landon" posters have done.
