OP,

You're one paycheck away from being "these people."

Don't kid yourself, hon.

+1. Most of us are one paycheck away...

Alright, I am the PP who wondered what OP meant by "these people." I didn't assume racial undertones necessarily, although I did assume some judgment- I was honestly wondering what OP meant, as there were no clues as to who "these people" might be?

Nope, sorry. Heard of salvation army and goodwill? It's not okay to steal no matter what the situation is.

High horse glass house. Hmmmm. You don't know what's going on. I'll let you know right now if my DS needs something I'll do whatever needs to be done to get it.
I guess you just don't love your kid(s)... Judgment doesn't feel good aimed at ya'. Does it?

You're a loser. It's never okay to shoplift, especially with your children. There are other resources and ways to get things if you are poor and in need, ESPECIALLY in this country. Were you there, you tool? You know the circumstances? So if your DS needed a new toy you would shoplift if you couldn't afford it? You feel bad for PP's children? I feel bad for your own.

For a contextual clue, just look to the preceding sentence. It refers to people who bring children with them to commit crimes. Pretty clear on its face that's who OP was referencing. Considering OP's words alone, there's no basis for any other meaning.

Your momma's a loser. Kids don't need toys.
Yes, if DS needs something and I am out of work with nobody to help, I will do what I have to do for him. I guess if you wouldn't it just shows how much you care or don't care about your kid(s). Again not so good when it's your turn to be judged. Interesting.

I used to own an upscale women's boutique in the area. One time a woman came in with her child, asked me to look in the back for something. During the less than two minutes I went to go check in the back she ran out with 4 expensive beaded clutches. I don't care how tough times are, she was a bitch.
Anonymous
OP - You're a horrible person. Shoplifting is wrong, yeah we all know that, but no one, including you, knows the woman's circumstances.

So, a woman can take her child with her to shoplift, but the OP is a horrible person? Good to see your morals are in the right place.

NP here. Is this all the same person defending the shoplifter or are there multiple defenders out there? Cause the Jean Valjean angle is getting kind of stale. (Ha, see, I assumed that when OP referred to "these people" she was talking about the French.)
Anonymous
Op here. Wow. My reference to these people was about people of all races who have no regard for not just the law but their own children. It was so sad to see that little boy on the verge of tears while his mother hurled expletives at the security guard. Filenes isn't Target or Walmart. They advertise designer wear at lower prices. She was there to take nice stuff. It wasn't for fruit of the loom clothes. But that poor boy. I can't get over his sad face. What emotional trauma.

Because you people demand it so I can make the same amount of money as you. We all know "these people" is a term historically used to reference all races other than white. But it's ok as the shoplifter was not good (she got caught) I just assume OP meant PWT.

so you can say "you people" and not be racist. But other people cannot say "these people" without being racist? right. i'll make a note of that.

Ok, let me get this straight. According to this overly educated AA poster: "You people" refers to non-AA and "these people" refers to non-Whites. Ok, gotcha.

People get caught for shoplifting with their children in tow every day, in every state in the Union. There is nothing new or different about the case at Filenes.
