| Wasabi peas, please! |
Actually, you know what I've noticed recently is that they always have an opinion regarding how my children are attached to the cart, which I find really annoying. If I take both my kids to TJs, I put the 3 year old in the front basket, and my 6 year old DD likes to stand on the edge and hold on, which is perfectly fine with me. But a few times, I've had staff come up to me and tell me it's dangerous, and would I please not do that. WTH? She's 6.5 years old! I'm not really worried about her not being able to hold on. I thought it was just me, but then a few weeks ago I was in line to pay, and the woman behind me, whose daughter turned out to also be 6, almost 7, was reprimanded by a staffperson who told her that he was worried her daughter might her cart over by holding on to it like that. She had a full cart too and was waiting to check out. She just said thank you and ignored him, and then I told her how I'm constantly being scolded by the TJ police for how I let my kids hold on to the cart and we had a big laugh. I don't really care and it's not like it's going to stop me from shopping there, but what is up with the nanny state at TJs?

there's even a web site called
traderjoesfan.com - where people rate and review stuff. Not affiliated with the store. |
I too have been "warned" to keep my kids off the cart but I think it is less a "nanny police" thing and more a liability issue. Guaranteed mgt. told them to keep watch |
Bought them for grilling at the pool. Damn good. So are those chili lime chicken burgers. The real sign of the devil in that place is the Contadino Vivace wine for $4. Crack, I tell you! |
| My son was holding on to the side of the cart and it started to tip (my daughter was in the correct seat)... I'm sure they have good intentions! Staff are always friendly and helpful where I go. |
Exactly what I was thinking! |
Thanks-loved the Kobe beef burger and although it was a little pricey (for TJ's anyway) did you see the size of those suckers? Like hockey pucks! ITA on the chili lime chicken burgers as well. Unfortunately I'm in MD so no wine at my TJ's. I need to relocate. |

It's no joke. I have witnessed it at TJ's and at least one other store where the child was hanging on to the side of the cart and it tipped over, rather violently. The children seemed to be fine but it was scary. The mother in the TJ's incident was not paying attention and she turned and screamed bloody murder but did not act. Of course the closest employee responded and many other shoppers. She just stood there, stunned. I agree any business is concerned about liability, they have hefty insurance premiuims to pay. |

BEST tj's recipe ever
(given to me by the samples guy who was making something else...) Toast ciabatta sliced longways Slice brown tomatoes (they only have them occasionally) Drizzle tomatoes with olive oil and salt Let them sit at room temp for a few minutes Place basil leaves in ciabatta, cover with tomato slices and drizzle with the juices Sprinkle with fresh mozzarella or quattro formaggio Toast until cheese is bubbly DH and I devoured this entire thing one night. Amazing. Your welcome. |
| My new favorite thing that we just had tonight for the first time: the reduced guilt frozen Mac and cheese. Holy Crap, soooo good!! I wish it came in bigger sizes. |

Angry fist wave at the person who posted here to recommend the smores candies. The ones you microwave.
I hate you
Perfect. Fourth of July treat. Sooo delicious. |
If you owned a business in a district where there were a lot of lawyers and you saw children engaged in behavior that *might* endanger themselves...what would YOU do? It's good business CYA. If your did does get hurt, TJs can say that not only are there warnings on the cart, but that their employees specifically addressed the topic. I'm guessing that at least one kid got injured and sued, standing on the cart improperly. |
Tee hee! Sorry, that was me! They're amazing aren't they? And this is coming from someone who thinks marshmallows are gross. I will definitely not be buying them unless it's for a BBQ or something. If I bought a box just to keep in the house, they'd be gone in the blink of an eye.
