Williams vs Emory premed

Jesus, no one, including medical school admissions, cares about cross admits or which school is more selective. Just send your kid to the school they like better

yes, go to the school where more kids are happier and places better at med school. aka williams

At this level, I don't see one school being an advantage over the other. I would say however that Emory has a hospital right on campus (I believe I saw it when I toured 4 years ago) and this can offer many opportunities that Williams can't.

More summer internship and research opportunities at Emory due to the hospital and Atlanta

I concur.

Also agree but these two are very close from a premed perspective, pick based on fit

Neither. Your state school provides the same and cheaper route as these two. If you're looking for just prestige band than obviously Williams. Keep in mind that if you are admitted to Emory's community college, you don't have the same big city research opportunities.

Please dont waste your 4 years there. Go to Hopkins.

Not a meaningful difference in terms of quality and med school results. Go by what environment you prefer.

Williams is #14th in per capita placement, and Emory is #22nd, with is indistinguishable IMO

Is med school like law school where there is a preference for kids from the undergrad? It would appear based on these lists where Harvard med is #1 feeder for Harvard undergrad…and it’s literally the same for all the schools.

It’s also curious that UPenn is #1 med school for Haverford and Swarthmore.

Is it because that’s where all these kids do hospital work?

The elephant in the room is prestige, have to ask how important that is to DC and to the medical schools they're aiming for. Williams is the clear winner here among elite schools/elite jobs, including elite medical schools, but you also have to be okay with some people in your neighborhood maybe never having heard of it. At williams DC would also have to seek out hospital experience during breaks or maybe junior year abroad opportunities

And Emory sends to Emory and unc, while willaims sends to Harvard, upenn, and yale.

it's familiarity with the city where the students do their undergrad and clinical experience, which translates into who they ask for letters of recommendation. at every level, it's hard to distinguish highly accomplished students but the letters (especially if you know the writer) carry a lot of weight. i'm an academic surgeon and if i'm interviewing someone for med school, residency, fellowship, or faculty position and i know their reference who writes a glowing letter, of course i will contact them for more info.

Emory has research, shadow, and internship opportunities that Williams doesn't have. The campus includes the medical school, a massive academic hospital, the CDC, school Of public health, primate research lab, and, of course, all the undergrad professors' labs.

Williams is small and academic, but you don't have the spider web of opportunities that will be available in Emory's universe.

And all of the above explains why Williams graduates get into better medical schools.
