Williams vs Emory premed

DC is between these two for premed. Cost isnt a factor. Emory is known for everything health, but does Williams small class size have any advantages?

I would go Emory.

Emory is one of the new ivy colleges

Williams has higher test scores and is more selective, though both are TO. I would guess very top medical schools would value williams over Emory, while generally many medical schools would like to see the volunteer/clinical experiences one could get at Emory
Very different vibes, dc will hopefully have a clear preference when visiting

Lots of family and friend ties to both schools, including people in the health professions. You can’t go wrong with either for pre-med. Go with the vibe. Two great schools- two very different campus cultures.

Does it matter at all?

I’ve known kids who went to Emory, Williams, Ivy schools, WashU, etc. and they all get accepted to good to great med schools.

Honestly, I don’t know the profile of kids getting rejected.

Williams has a more cohesive campus culture because of its isolation. Emory is more “spread out” socially, being in a large city and near other major universities.

Just returned from a quick visit to Williams. Beautiful campus, could be a movie set, and incredibly impressive academics. But wow, is it isolated! This seems like one of those choices where a kid will know whether they can be happier there vs Emory.

NP does anyone know firsthand if Williams kids are happy? Particularly non-athletes who are not going into IB?

Very true, hard to imagine a kid would not have a preference for one or the other.

You need to visit in January and decide if it’s the right place. A lot different when super cold and you don’t have much daylight.

I have friends who went to Williams and loved it. But they did say that it was tough for kids who did not fit in the mold (unless they were art history majors - I think those students are kind of their own subculture).
