I can see why Langston may not want to move, but Arlington Tech's arguments against it are really weak. This isn't going to really affect AT. The move to the new building and the expansion of AT will be much more impactful than sharing a large building with another small program (they already share with other programs). |
Langston new directions is about 90 kids which isn’t a ton, but will have some impact. The greater question is how it will impact class availability and if they decide to do their two separate pathways with different administrators. |
Allowed everyone in? No! They have had ~450 applications, their largest number ever, iirc. Their waitlist is 200 long, also their longest waitlist ever, I think. |
It’s more like 112, so it’s significant, if paired with all the other small programs of 50-60 kids that were already slated to move there, too. It’s 4-5 programs total, or more. |
They have another information night and tour soon, I think it is Wednesday or Thursday. |
| In the past few years, I have heard of kids in the 90s or hundreds getting off the waitlist |
How can I find out more about this? Nothing is on the website. |
| We were 69th on the waitlist a couple years ago and got an offer. We didn't take it because my kid plays two sports at yorktown, but the kids we know at AT are doing really well there. |
How are the regular classes there? English, history, etc. meaning the mandatory classes that make up almost the entire schedule? Are there intensified options for each, or would that have to be a DE class? We went to the tour and realized it’s all fantastic, but we’re shown all electives (and how could you even take advantage of more than one per yr?). |
What arguments? |
Regular classes are like all the high schools. If there is no DE option then there is intensified, but they don’t really start de until your sophomore year. At the other schools you can get in an AP class freshman year but not at tech. That might have changed by now (world history AP). I highly recommend considering taking pe over the summer (you can do that as a rising freshman) so you can have 2 electives plus your language outside of your core classes |
It is. There's one garish troll who likes to poop on AT threads. It's really weird. They keep repeating lies in the face of facts. At this point I think it might be a kid. |
So why even apply if not interested due to sports? |
Is world History AP a common (?) Freshman class at the comprehensive high schools? |
Only at W&L I believe. |
