| It seems like the new expansion of Arlington Tech has allowed everyone that wanted to go there to get in |
| That and people understand it’s more of a trade school route than an alternative TJ |
Have you looked at their college acceptances for this year? I would not exactly call it only a trade school. |
Arlington Tech is different from Arlington Career Center. It offers a unique opportunity for students to earn a significant amount of DE credit or even an associate's degree. We are looking at both AT (got in) and TJ (waiting until April to find out) |
| I know someone who is 100 on the waitlist so it goes at least that deep |
| I also heard of someone who was in the hundreds. |
Its a tale of two cities. A handful of admits to a couple of Ivy, and notably Carnegie Mellon. But missing GATech, MIT, CalTech, Berkeley, Stanford really dampens the “Tech” emphasis of the school. Some RIT and FIT admits, but really not a feeder to engineering schools or elite schools The vast majority go to GMU, JMU; UVA was kind of surprisingly weak. I think the DE really draws students who have no plans to go OOS, so its a feeder to the VCU, JMU, GMU crowd, who can save significant tuition this way. Top academics, engineering, and science are not its emphasis, not anything like a mini TJ. |
| We’re waitlisted and have a friend at 150 or so on the wait list. It’s not TJ but it’s not a trade school. |
|
We are evaluating whether to accept an offer. What is the best way to learn more given all that is in flux? Thought I’d ask here since we could help the waitlist move if we decline.

I have 2 kids there. It’s not a trade school, but does have access to vocational classes. Kids there opt in for the stem. I’m sure a q and a night is there for folks interested. The school is small, but the kids I know are getting into excellent schools.
New school opens in September. Kids from all schools already attend the CTE classes so I’m hoping that nothing substantial will changing socially |
Thank you. So is the student/teacher ratio much lower than WL? |
They are voting on the move on Thursday and may have more information then |
there is one very loud and AT person on here. The flux is nothing, really. The 70 new kids will blend with the 1400 and the 4 programs that are already there. It’s a great STEM school where all the kids are academically oriented. Private schools also accept DE courses. Our babysitter got a full ride to a SLAC and many de credit transfers. If your kid likes it, great. If not another will happily take the spot. |
That’s not the the extent of the plans, which they keep changing on the go. There are many people concerned about it, including teachers at Langston |
It certainly feels like it. It is a small pond . With expansion of new building things will change, but the small scale really suits us. The kids that have left tech want a big pond, more typical high school environment. The ones that have stayed or transferred in enjoy the size and focused program. |
