| Were any mental health supports provided to the students at JW who stood a rock toss away from half a dozen officers drawing guns and yanking a suspect out of their vehicle? On the video floating around you can hear the kids worried that it's ICE about to kill someone. I'd go as far as to say what the JW kids SAW is more traumatic than anything to Wootton students witnessed. |
| Does anyone know why the mom and sister were driving the suspect? Did they know what had happened or did the mom just think she was doing some sort of errand? And why was the sister home and not at school? |
Is this a weird joke? It's more traumatizing to simply watch the news. |
It's weird you don't understand how that incident could be upsetting to anyone - let alone 11-13 year olds. Seeing things in person is more intense than watching it on TV. |
Wow. Your kids have led awfully sheltered lives if that would be a traumatic event for them. |
Walking outside your school to see a bunch of officers with guns drawn, arresting somebody in front of your school who just shot a kid at a school a couple miles away while they also detain two others, handcuffed outside their vehicles, is absolutely going to be traumatic. My child's first questions were about the danger of that uncontrolled situation as it unfolded with the kids coming out of the school to walk home. |
DP I pretty sure it's not the first time nor would it be the last time kids see folks getting arrested in front of their schools. |
I take that as a compliment. It's a privilege I wish most kids had. Why rush for them to be exposed to so much. |
Most would find it more interesting than traumatic. I struggle to understand how any observer could find it traumatic. |
| I'm confused. Was he arrested in Chantilly Court or outside JW? Also, have we only had ONE statement from MCPS about this..the one that didn't describe what actually happened, but went on to offer the usual platitudes...nothing further? |
Officially, they didn't say where he was arrested. We have video evidence of the family pulled over outside Julius West. We have a news story reporting that he went home after the shooting and stashed the gun in his back yard. The news story does NOT contradict the video evidence and account from Julius West students. He was not arrested immediately after the shooting, and it is perfectly possible for him to have gone home, stashed the gun, and then gone out with his mother and sister, only to be arrested near Julius West a couple miles away. |
From.Chantilly Court you can drive down Watts Branch to Fallsmead Way and it takes you out to Falls Road close to JW and 270. The news reports said he was arrested on Falls Road. |
| Long MCPS statement just came out! |
Zilch about continuing normal operations with a shooting a couple miles away and a shooter at large who then got arrested right in front of the open school. |
Maybe given what has happened around the country more recently |
