Zilch about continuing normal operations with a shooting a couple miles away and a shooter at large who then got arrested right in front of the open school.

Shocking

This article contradicts the picture you painted and states he was hiding in his backyard. But even so, the school should have locked down until they knew.

You misread the article. It says he ran home and hid the gun in his back yard. It says he was caught later away from the school. It does not say he was caught at home. He went back out with his mother and sister, where he was caught near Julius west.

You are thinking of the WaPo article.
The Bethesda article is incorrect.

"After the shooting, the alleged shooter ran back to his home and hid in his backyard, Cissel said. "

My child has the video of the mother and sister handcuffed

I wonder if that's where they live then? I'm not familiar with that area to know. Maybe they initially found him in his back yard, but of course brought him to the street there.

No. They lived at Chantilly

Julius West had never locked down. It was dismissal time! Walkers witnessed the arrest, police officers pointing guns at the ready, the shooter’s family handcuffed and detained at their car where it was pulled over. Students from the middle school took video of the event.

How did Julius West never lock down? How did they allow middle schoolers to walk and buses to drive past the scene in action?

SHELTER IN PLACE not Lockdown.
Lockdown means "run, hide, fight". Thr incorrect lockdown announcement was why the Fallsmead teacher fled with her class.

The emergency protocols were revised this year. People should familiarize themselves with the five categories, described here:

Should have been one of these. Which one?

Hold

Secure

Shelter (will now apply to only environmental hazards, such as extreme weather)

Lockdown (Locks, lights, out of sight)

Evacuate (Guide students and staff out of the building to an evacuation area. Used when it is safer outside of school building than inside, e.g., fire, gas leak, unsafe structure)

Sounds like it should have been "secure." The issue with gunman at large is why BCC and RM have so many instances that they used to call shelter-in-place. Basically whenever one of the local business was held up with a gun, they would keep the kids in place until they knew where the person was or at least could clear the area.

They may have called "Secure."

On the video floating around you can hear the kids worried that it's ICE about to kill someone. I'd go as far as to say what the JW kids SAW is more traumatic than anything to Wootton students witnessed.

Is this a weird joke?

It's more traumatizing to simply watch the news.

It's weird you don't understand how that incident could be upsetting to anyone - let alone 11-13 year olds. Seeing things in person is more intense than watching it on TV.

Wow. Your kids have led awfully sheltered lives if that would be a traumatic event for them.

Walking outside your school to see a bunch of officers with guns drawn, arresting somebody in front of your school who just shot a kid at a school a couple miles away while they also detain two others, handcuffed outside their vehicles, is absolutely going to be traumatic. My child's first questions were about the danger of that uncontrolled situation as it unfolded with the kids coming out of the school to walk home.

DP
I pretty sure it's not the first time nor would it be the last time kids see folks getting arrested in front of their schools.

TPMS students saw ICE kidnap a woman.
