But that’s not going to change - there’s no HOA in Sterling Park so those streets are not getting plowed. If residents won’t get out there and shovel I’m not sure the whole county should just stay closed. Western Loudoun probably got out there and used farm equipment to plow and at a minimum had shovels. No way is eastern Loudoun keeping us closed.

HOA’s don’t clear neighborhood roads (other than townhome areas) - VDOT does. And the VDOT contractors assigned to Sterling and the Cascades area have been totally AWOL. Whole neighborhoods totally untouched. Also Potomac Station in Leesburg has entire sections totally untouched. School board members and county supervisors live in these areas. There will not be school tomorrow. Watch.

I live in a Western Loudoun neighborhood and our roads were plowed but are half iced over with black ice. My kids in the morning have to walk to their bus stop, no way do I think its safe for them to get there (we don't have sidewalks). Their bus travels down many gravel and dirt roads. They'd better close schools tomorrow, because my kids are gonna have no way to get there.

The teacher year goes longer than 10 months which screams year round but unlike actual year round school only has 2 breaks instead of 4 or 5. https://files-backend.assets.thrillshare.com/documents/asset/uploaded_file/4461/Lcps/33240cf3-0dab-476a-a973-dd2b3e5c84b7/FY28-Calendar---Final.pdf?disposition=inline

Yeah we all noticed and they don’t care. Loudoun parents have asked for more longer breaks and less random days, but no one cares.

Teachers have too.

We’re inching closer to year round school (more shorter breaks interspersed throughout, no longer summer break)

VDOE would have to allow that and right now they don’t.

Due to continued icy conditions in parts of the county, Loudoun County Public Schools will remain closed for students tomorrow, Thursday, January 29, 2026.

Tomorrow will be a dedicated teacher workday. Teachers will receive additional details from their supervisors regarding expectations and how to best leverage the day.

Buildings and administrative offices will open at 10:00 a.m. The Budget Hearing scheduled for 4:30 p.m. will take place.

As we continue to monitor weather conditions and the potential for additional inclement weather in the coming days, LCPS is exploring virtual learning options to ensure continuity of learning for all of our students. Any virtual learning would be asynchronous, allowing flexibility for students and staff while helping to minimize any connectivity and access challenges.

We appreciate your continued patience and partnership as we prioritize safety and work to ensure learning continues.

New superintendent is weird. Just close school, no need for all the extra commentary.

I can see why they defended it like that for day 4- a lot of people probably thought we were good to go back and are getting antsy. I’ll be honest, the little mention about “virtual learning” makes me think they’re gearing up for Friday too. As a teacher I’d like to go back Friday because that would get B day caught up with A from last week, but the tone of that message made it seem like Friday is not necessarily in play.

The VDOT plow contractor assigned to Sterling Park and the Cascades area went completely AWOL. Lots of people still haven’t seen a plow. The issue this time is with VDOT.

That’s fair. My HOA hired a guy with a bobcat to try to remove some stuff from the streets finally. He’s out front now shoveling every houses snow pile to dump it all in a common area and then scrape up ice from the street. LCPS staff for an email that said “we look forward to starting second semester as soon as it’s safe to do so” which doesn’t sound like tomorrow so I just assume we’re out til Monday.

As a colleague, you’re a weirdo. I love having these days off. Couldn’t care one bit about people’s rage or anxiety. We’re glorified babysitters.

Where did I say I care about rage or anxiety… I wouldn’t mind a B day for my own classes to stay on track. And if we cancel again I’m cool with that too.
