Jan 25th storm

Right now it’s looking like late Saturday. If he’s going in Saturday morning, it probably won’t be an issue, but keep an eye on the forecast.

Do you have children?

DP here. I have teens and hope we are closed too, for as long as possible. But I remember having little ones and feeling differently.

You don’t care about what they’re missing at school? In FCPS we would miss the last few days of the semester when they have to finish their exams.

If I were a teacher, I’d be bumping any next week tests up to Friday. High odds that FCPS is closed all next week (since they are already scheduled to be closed Th/F, out early Wed).

I am too desperate for a major storm, so I know we’ll just get a coating to an inch.

I have to leave town this weekend, so I’m counteracting your bad luck with my own and I’m predicting a historic 20+ inches.

OP here.

The time of onset will change as we get closer to the event. Already it's been slowed down from the early hours of Saturday to the afternoon.

Please check back in and build flexibility into your plans for that day. I am assuming that Sunday will be spent shoveling whatever accumulates.

No. My high achieving teens need a break. We are in LCPS and they don’t do exams. AP teachers intentionally build in snow days to their pacing of content. A week off would be welcome to everyone. It’s also the beginning of our 3rd quarter (2nd Q ends this Thursday before the storm) so it’s actually great timing and likely to influence the decision in favor of closure.

For the first time this year I’m fully prepared with sleds and snow gear for my ES kids. I predict we’ll get a dusting.

Ten years ago, we got 30” of snow that started falling on a Friday. MCPS did an early release that day, and the following Monday was already scheduled to be a non instructional day. We STILL ended up using 5-6 consecutive snow days. I wouldn’t wish that on anybody. For my own family (my kids are seniors in high school), I’d love a couple snow days this month, but for all the working parents who have to find alternative childcare on snow days, I hope this storm isn’t too disruptive.

I was planning to drive to NC for the weekend (Friday through Sunday) and now I’m not sure if I should make the trip. Bummer.

It was really fun TBH. I'd rather have one monster storm than 5 nonsense dustings.

If it's going to be bitter ass cold, we might as well have snow.

This. We are overdue.

That 30 inch storm was in 2016 and our street did not see one single plow for 5 days. School was closed a week and a half if I recall.

I had to order new snow boots, thus guaranteeing the storm will miss up. You are welcome.

I remember that, it was awesome!

We were supposed to fly to Disneyworld that Saturday. Everything was cancelled and we ended up driving on Sunday after spending all morning digging out. The snow drifts were insane. They were plowing 95 as we we were driving it--only 2 lanes were clear.

Hoping for a nice big storm, but since I bought my kids new snow gear in preparation, it will definitely be a bust.
