In an interesting turn of events, Overton grabbed a kid out of Richmond this year and the states legislation body is looking to push his brand of chaos into the whole state.

This law change would have made all the students at Hayfield eligible. Maybe FCPS is waiting for this to play out so that they can justify supporting it behind the scenes.

This is important. MO for those in charge for past few decades (at every level and regardless of political affiliation) has been to claim they're "investigating" and then wait for the inevitable short attention span of public to move on to something else. Thus, no one ever gets held accountable for anything.

While this doesn't rise to "Pentagon Papers" level of importance, it's critical to start holding public officials accountable for their decisions and actions and not let them hide behind paperwork, "privacy" concerns and miniscule public attention spans. Only thing that will get this report released is good old public pressure - keep up the good work!

If only our most major local newspaper (the Washington Post, which may have national aspirations but is also local) ever actually published anything negative about FCPS...

I'm not saying they should only publish the negative, but they literally refuse to engage in any sort of accountability for local school systems over there in the education section of that paper.

You may be in an alternate universe but in case you haven’t heard, the Post’s actual journalism staff has been decimated in the Bezos years. There used to be a huge Metro staff. There is barely a skeleton crew now.

What a stupid proposal. This would result in utter chaos. Next will be NILs for 10-year-olds.

I’m 100% sure this report looks terrible for Reid and other administrators that were involved, but I doubt it matters. FCPS and Reid are drowning in multiple chaotic debacles (boundary review, new HS, etc.) This one will just be another shovel full of shit stacked on top of the pile of shit already steaming at Gatehouse. WHO voted to extend Reid and give her a raise?? I’m starting to doubt that FCPS will ever be able to undue all of Reid’s mistakes.

This incident reflects a cultural reality. Football is of outsized importance in the community. Witness the “team chaplain” gushing over a 3 star playing getting a scholarship at Clemson - the apex of achievement- despite the fact it is unlikely the kid will play. No knock on the kid but it reflects the relevant values. Logically high school football can only do so much - but that doesn’t matter - the regional superintendent, the principal, the AD and others were willing to do virtually anything for a winning football team. Given the heavy cultural emphasis on football, any criticism revolving around skewed priorities will be deemed racist.

I think people are more concerned about Reid’s lying/cover-up than Overton. The Overton situation is over, but Reid has a 4 billion dollar budget at her disposal and people want to know if she is honest and trustworthy or crooked and negligent. Personally I think her actions in something like this are very telling of her character and integrity which is why I want to read the report and find out wha actually happened.

This story is so old and is about football...HS football. Who cares and you all need to move on. It really didnr impact your life.
